South Dallas/North Ellis Plant Club/Group???

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I know Texasgreen and me talked before about wanting to get involed in one of these or start one but never moved past that. Does anyone have any idea if there is one in our area? Really would be nice for an Ovilla/Red Oak one but anything close would be nice (you know a place to talk plants, swap, and do some group buys - nothing that could ever replace Daves but something local and fun to just get together. If no one knows about one near here - anyone know anything about starting a group here in Texas? What will we need and how do you get one started? Any ideas on this?

Thanks for any help you have - Mitch

Hey, Mitch, great minds etc!

I was just thinking that it's the right time of year for this to start.

I "started a group" on yahoo a while back, & it's still there...no members, no messages, but it's still there!

I think it's something like Ellis/Southwest Garden Swap.

I'll check & come back.

Texasgreen - I was thinking about maybe finding a building over in Ovilla that might have a room were we could eat breakfast and have a speaker once a m or so.... and plant sale, take on a city park or such... I know of a couple of speakers we could get already - maybe more if we worked at it a little...

I would just love to talk shop to a human face to face every so often!

Hmmm.

I diagnose your malady as Texas Wintertime Gardening Withdrawal.

As I've been told my own self, "there's a fine line between hobby & addiction."

Well, who cares?

It's gardening, for cryin' out loud, I'd just as soon be addicted.

The cure is just what you already figured out:
We gotta get together with other sufferers & steady our shaking hands & reassure each other that the sun will indeed bring all our little friends back above ground.

I just posted a Welcome on the other site.

Y'all can see it at:

I'd love to have a get-together pretty soon.

(especially 'cause before we know it, we'll all be outside & these computers will cool off!)

Who you got in mind for a speaker?

Everyone can email me at sylviaboardwalk@aol.com

ps: I bet we could get the big room at the city hall or maybe the sanctuary at the Methodist church.
If we were sure of good weather, & we didn't have it on a day when there's a children's athletic event at the park, the gazebo in the park is wonderful.

Check with your local extension office, they may have a list of any local garden clubs. If there aren't any, be sure to let them know of your interest in starting one - they may be able to steer people in your direction. Also, you might want to see if they have any upcoming events - lots of times the master gardeners have classes, sales, etc in the Spring. It may be a great place to meet people who are interested in starting/joining a club.
