my blue satin "twig"

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Early last summer, I traded with a girl in Florida for 3 sprigs of her hibiscus...that she says is Blue Satin purchased from Park Seed.

Of the 3 twigs....one rooted..put out a few leaves but did nothing else all summer.

It was one of the few special plants that I moved inside the house for the winter. All this time I had zero new growth. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that the few leaves had fell off.

I thought well....its dormant or dead...probably dead. I set the pot on the bottom self to put outside later.

The next day...I had mixed up a little messenger to spray on my Maya brug cutting so I doused the hibiscus cutting also.

Now look at it !!

Blue satin is a shrub rose of sharon, not a tropical hibiscus. It goes dormant in winter and blooms for a few weeks in late summer. Then sets seeds usually.

Yes... I understand it is not tropical but I would have called it a "hardy" hibiscus. I was afraid to put such as small twig in a dormant storage room.

Looks like it has a bud. Should I encourage it to grow. Do you think it might bloom and then continue to grow until next fall ? I plan to set it out in the yard if it survivies.

I'd keep it growing till time to put it outside. Then plant in sun in the yard will bloom during summer. :-)

I definately have 2 buds. NO.. I'm not gonna cut them off..though I maybe should. :)
