Good Morning,
Some of you are aware of the problems that are currently associated with GW so many long time GW contributors are moving on to "Greener Pastures" GW was recently purchased by a large Internet site. The general felling all over the forums is not good.
I lurk here often but time permitting posting is not always an option. I hope you'all will welcome many of us. I am trying to get some of my cronies to join Dave's. Many of us are long time gardeners and get together frequently for meats & swaps (GAB)LOL
I even mentioned to everyone that Dave is a Texan to.....He seems to have created the perfect site.!!
I'm Karen/Cocobid, Coco is a cockatiel of mine she has one foot since birth, she is beautiful and strong willed and does not seem to know she is handicapped. She is a wife and mother and I am proud to sport her name as my nickname. EBAY is an addiction of mine also. Hence Cocobid.
I have been gardening since I was a child, it is something you can do your whole life. I am in a local garden club in Fort Worth where at almost 50 I am the youngest member! There are ladies up in their 90's still out there digging. I have not encountered one yet that is not sharp as a tack. In their shadow I truly realized how much I have yet to learn!
I am sad that many of the folks that I have gotten to know over the years on a forum are just scattering.
But as the DH always ...."When one door closes, another opens", so I guess this is one of those times.
Thank You for listening,
Karen
Adios GW....Hello Dave's
Welcome to Daves Garden, Karen. I am sure you will be very happy here and will find plenty of friends and stimulating conversation.
We love to learn from each other, and I am sure there is a lot we can learn from you.
Josephine.
Welcome Karen,
I am down in Red Oak but I know texasgreen and live near her down here. You are going to love Daves - this really is the perfect site - try the trading forums here, and if you are into Daylilies, Roses, Iris, etc check out the forums for them. I have found them a lot better to use over here! This is the best place on the web to be - Mitch
Welcome, Karen! Hope you'll just pull up a chair (or trowel, lol) and make yourself right at home! I look forward to hearing and learning from you!
Mary
Hi Karen,
I'm just down the road in Mansfield. Welcome to Dave's -- you've just found the most awesome collection of people! I am amazed almost daily at the genuine warmth and generosity of our members.
Got a chuckle about you being the youngest in your gardening club. My love of gardening originally came from my Godmother, who is now almost 96 and is still an avid gardener. She had her greenhouse fixed up last year, and was very insistent about certain things when my husband was building mine last fall.
I missed our local round-up, but have met Josephine (Frostweed) who is a wonderful person with tons of knowledge. Look forward to visiting with you.
Sharon
Thank You for the Warm Welcome.
Just put my trowel down and came in, and yes pulled up a stool. Replaced 3 heads on the Sprinkler and watered the Greenhouses. I would swear it is May out there!!!!
I had a power outage during the freeze in December and both houses got down to 28. All leaves gone but plants and cain's OK. I usually let them go dormant any way. Not this year. Everything is just leafing out like spring time. I think this is funny totally necked Brugs, but instead of putting out leaves they are putting out Buds...LOL Oh a few leaves, crazy plants, crazy weather.
Josephine were you every posting of GW??
I look forward to getting to know all of you, after all it is a new year!
Karen
Karen, do consider going to the Roundup in College Station, April 29th: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555362/ It would be so fun to meet you!
Mary
Karen, this website is addictive so turn your computer off if you do not want to be on the best gardening website ever. I look at it every am and every pm.
Hey, girl, it's me, sylviatexas!!
(I've asked Dave to change texasgreen to sylviatexas, so maybe I'll be myself soon.)
Glad to see you over here.
Check 75154 (mitch's) post about get-togethers in the southern DFW area.
Mitch pulled a fast one and is now MitchF :-) Much easier to remember and type than a bunch of numbers! (I have trouble remembering my own zip code, much less other people's. Thanks again, Mitch!)
Welcome Karen!
I always thought they were a bit "cliquish" over there on the discussions part of the Texas forum. Folk's are much friendlier and inclusive over here; even if you say some incredibly stupid things as I have in the past! (the past? I still do it on a weekly basis! lol) I did start out there but never go back now except to the seed trading forum--they have an awful lot of spyware over there too which really takes time to clear off the 'puter!
Debbie
Hi you all, I made it over from GW,too. I have been a member here for 2 yrs. but don't post much. I usually read in the early morn and am still trying to just "function" at that point.
I'm a long time gardener and just married a gardener. He's doing the master gardener program this summer.
Hey Sylviatexas, you remember the rose you gave me? I think it's Westerlin or ?.. It's climbing up my cedar now. You'd be proud.
I'm going to have an open house this spring/summer and hope anyone in the area can come see the fruits of my labor. I'm on solid bedrock and have managed after 3 yrs. to get flowerbeds 24"-36" deep. It's been a long hard haul, but now my plants are really strutting their stuff. My roses are all going crazy. They're fed compost tea 2 times a week and alfalfa biweekly. I'm determined to have a great garden even in all the adverse conditions. I'm trying to stay native w/most and really adding LOTS of organic matter to conserve water..
Hilary
Nice to meet you, Hilary! What a great idea, an open house for your garden! Don't be afraid to chime in with the rest of us, I know you have plenty to teach us, especially after working with your conditions. Be sure to check out the info about the Statewide Roundup that Dave (yes, the Dave, lol) is organizing. It will be in College Station, April 29th. Here's the link: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555362/ .
Have you checked out the native plants thread? Lots of good info there, and we'd love to hear from you.
Hope to see you around!
Mary
I am another ex-gw person. I have been lurking at Dave's for a couple of years as well but just joined yesterday. Hag I think we are neighbors. Don't you live near China Springs?
Patsy
That's right Patsy. I'm on Wortham Bend out here. It's getting crowded out here with all the imports moving in. LOL I came from Dallas 2 yrs ago to find peace and quiet and I think I must have brought half the metroplex with me according to the traffic out here. I'm 18 miles from town and have to listen to freeway noise just like in Dallas. Geez, I don't think there is any quiet anymore... Oh well, I'm just grateful I don't have the traffic I came from anymore.
Come see me anytime..
Hilary
Hi Karen, welcome to DG! You will love it here, everyone is so friendly. I am in Canyon Lake, Tx. Orig. from Houston for 35 yrs. Glad to meet you and all the other nice folks here! Krispi
Hi Karen and Welcome to Dave's!!! I remember you from GW. I'm an ex member too. Looked around here at Dave's and decided to join. It's a great place and everybody is really friendly. I'm glad to see some other GW members here too.
Lin (Dancey)
A belated welcome to Dave's Garden and the Texas forum! I do hope you will join us in College Station this April (only 2.5 hours from DFW!) I expect at least a hundred DGers will be there, and the plant trading should be phenomenal.
Tell all your friends to come over to the green pastures (dotted with bluebonnets) here at DG! :-)
best,
dave
This has been so fun getting to meet all of you. Welcome, and we'll look forward to seeing you here!
Mary
Thanks Mary. Everyone on DG is so nice and informative.
Hilary
Welcome to DG Karen, nice to see another FW gardener join us! Hope to meet you this spring!
