Early Canna!

I potted a Tropicanna rhizome a week ago, put it in the greenhouse. I didn't expect anything so soon!

Yes, that's amazing, but with our Missouri warm weather, I have bulbs up, crocus blooming, shrubs budding out - really crazy, but welcome! I wonder if we will pay the piper with flooding this spring?

I hope not, although we did here, last year.

It was my first Spring here, and nobody told me it was coming. My entire garden was under water for weeks, and eventually was totally wiped out. I learned a good lesson.

I'm more concerned about the last frost....late January and early Feb are beautiful here, and then the last week of Feb, we get one final frost that wipes things out. Year after year I learn the hard way, year after year I'm tempted by the beautiful warm sunny weather of early and mid February, and zappo, the last week of Feb he frost gets whatever I've planted.
You can't help the mother nature things sprouting though, only try to protect them. My Stuttgart cannas, red leaf cannas, and pink erebus cannas have sprouted and are getting quite large. (The erebus are actually getting ready to bloom) The red cannas are still blooming from last season.
