I've got a Potato Chip Palm (Chamaedorea tuerckheimii) and I'm wondering about its leaf color. The plant is growing regularly and even putting out a new leaf in winter.
The leaves are not a uniform green. I was feeding at half the recommended dose during summer with Peters Brand 20-20-20 and stopped fertilizing in October. It is watered when the soil surface is dry. It receives high indirect light, but not direct sunlight.
The picture was taken in October 2005 right after I misted it.
I should also add that the plant shows no signs of bugs, mites, or fungus. Overall, the plant is healthy, but I'm wondering about the leaf coloring.
Thanks for any info.

Leaf Color on my Chamaedorea tuerckheimii
Jim I am no expert in this area really. But it looks like you may have scale which is the white looking bugs on the leaf. Also you may want to check for other bugs under the leaf. The stick substance is usualy a sign of insects of some sort. besides that good light and some feeding may help as well. Just be light with the feeding if the roots are not well developed it can cause rot.
The mottling is normal for that form of C tuerckheimii (Mexican). The Guatemalan form is a very dark, even green with a thin white margin around the edges, and is the more well known variety in cultivation. However, I think this is the better looking form.
