Do you know how this type taste as opposed to the regular orange type of carrot?

I am growing them this year, so we will find out shortly. It is an imperator type and my experience has been good with the red and yellow forms of this type. It is becoming pretty popular and available from several vendors in the US including Park seeds.

As long as you don't cook them, the purple color holds. Of course the core is orange so its a mixed color. Like the purple snap beans, cooking destroys the color. Taste is not usually affected by the color.

There are several of them. This is a new hybrid from Europe, Purple Dragon is an open pollinated one favored by "heirloom" gardeners.
