One fine morning in August, 2003 I looked out my front door and almost fell over sideways! There was a Mom turkey and 6 teen/babies following her down my front walk! Being a former Boston street kid, this was my 1st ever sighting of wild turkeys. I grabbed my handy dandy digital camera and caught them in pixels...
Since that day, the turkeys and their offspring, and the offspring of their offspring, have been patrolling these streets on the other side of the Welcome to Boston sign! It's hard to predict their outings. They just suddenly are there :-) No one seems to know where they live, but there's a small wooded area nearby near the trolley tracks behind some houses near Boston College.
These urban wild turkeys literally stop traffic while s-l-o-w-l-y crossing the streets of their choice. BUT no one minds! Every driver smiles, and many pull over to enjoy the sight of these peaceful new neighbors. One time I saw a turkey running after boy on his skateboard. Both the turkey and the boy were smiling (the boy for sure, the turkey, I think so).
One day not long ago I drove down a nearby street and noticed that neighbors has placed a boulder in their front yard. It didn't make sense to me artistically, but OK. Well, as I drove by this "boulder" I saw that it was a resting Tom turkey!
Cheers!
