Rose of Sharon 'Red Heart'
Hibiscus syriacus
Taken 6th September, my garden in UK zone 8
Rose of Sharon 'Red Heart' (Hibiscus syriacus)
Your ROS is UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL...
Emma
Hi Emma! Good to see you again! I grew this one from a very small plug plant, they are very slow. I love them, the petals seem to be ballooning out on this one, and that 'red heart', well who REALLY needs tropical Hibiscus?? (Me?)
I agree with Emma!! Awesome ROS. We have some lining the bottom of the yard next to the road and I love them. But of course yours is better...again. LOL
pepper! You know I don't do ugly.........
I know but you do such a good job that I have to do a little complaining. Don't want your head to get too big ya know!! LOL.
Janet, I came across your photo when I was searching for a Solid White that I just got seeds for and haven now fallen in love with the 'Red Heart' variety. I must admit I've not paid much attention to the ROS's until the last couple of years and now have several different varieties going, including the SOLID RED 'supposedly'. Forgot the name - would need to look it up. But, I just LOVE yours, Janet. So unique. Yours IS the Winner!
Emma
Emma, Woodbridge is the deeper pink one with red eye, I haven't come across a solid red, it's more than likely a selection of that. Oiseau Blue or Blue Bird is equally as nice. Is the red one a Hybiscus syriacus? there are very large hybrids of a different type which are hardy that are red, 10-12" flowers, I grew some Galaxy last year, they are hardy to -20C and just starting to grow again, still small but I think they will put on some size this year. They are supposed to be able to flower in the first year with an early start, not in this climate!

Between you and pepper my head is already swelling!
Janet,
What I have is Hibiscus syriacus ‘Freedom’ -
but I doubt that it will be a 'True Red'.

I also have Hibiscus syriacus Blue Satin™
And another that just 'may' be the one you've described as 'Woodbridge'
I'll need to dig out some photos and maybe you can ID for me.
I do have several Hardy Hibiscus. All are Disco Bell Series that are 3' Dwarfs with HUGE 10" Blooms.
One is a 'killer'. Just beautiful that is 'Almost Red', a Deep Dark Red-Rose Color.
Real car stopper.
I came across this the other day and just LOVE this one.
Now This IS Red.

I have 10 or 12 plants, so I hope I get a good mixture of colours and hopefully this year. The Galaxy are pretty much the same as Disco Bell but newer.
Did you see Boule de Feu on PF? It's very double and a deep colour, slow for a start but when it gets going it's a beauty.
I have started to fill my 'tropical' bed, when I see how many plants that I REALLY want to put in then I start to worry! Still have some grass...
I just looked up your Boule de Feu.
BEAUTIFUL!
This one I STILL want to order.
Go to this site and click on the Enlarge and Enlarge it again on the button....
UNBELIEVABLE!
Emma
Hmmm Emma, if I could see it I might agree!
Oh Darn....

Thanks Emma!!
Oooooooooooh yes, I see what you mean!
pepper, you still around? Are you going to get one? I doubt we would have it here..
Also, the owner of this site is who hybridized this beauty. He has others as well on his site. Robert Dupont.
I STILL plant on ordering this one.
Can't stop thinking about it. Such a beauty.
Emma
