Hi from Savannah, MO, just arrived from San Diego. Brrrrrrr

Savannah, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi all! What a great site to have stumbled on. We just moved to Savannah, MO from San Diego, in September. We bought a house on almost 3 acres, a far cry from our little matchbox backyard in So. Cal. We have fruit trees, nut trees, and a lot of landscaping to do. The former owners were not educated on what any of the trees were, variety wise, or any of the other trees on the property. I will definitely be asking for some identification help later on this Spring on what these trees are. I am starting to receive all the garden catalogs in my mailbox now, and I wasn't even sure what zone I was in. As far as I can tell, I am in zone 5b. Enough blathering for now, I just wanted to say hello and hopefully get some direction to some forums that you might recommend to a newbie Midwestern gardener. Cheers! Dawn

Dawnie2U--welcome! You will love it on DG and I guarantee you will learn lots about Zone 5b and how to grow things there and have lots of fun too.

Two years ago we moved to Cincy from Los Angeles and I learned so much about gardening and other stuff about the area from DG friends. Good luck to you. t.

Welcome to the midwest-but what were you thinking trading San Diego weather for zone 5? I have a sister who lives in San Diego, her husband is originally from Canada and you couldn't drag them back to the cold weather!
If it would help in the transition let me know what plans you have for your garden and (after the spring thaw!) I will send you some zone5 (Ohio) plants to welcome you. I have plants for sun, shade, pond -Dmail me!
Enjoy your new home! MW

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. I made it through the winter unscathed for the most part, but boy were we glad to see spring. It has been so fun watching my yard bloom. We had no idea what to expect, and are being surprised all the time. I have been trying to figure out the varieties of fruit trees we have. The people we bought it from knew nothing about the trees. Thanks again! Dawn
