Propogating suckers.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I have a TON of suckers...
So I have some questions here
I just popped them in soil...On Rachels they suggest filling the middle with perlite...is this how you guys do it?
Also ...how long does it usually take them to root? and do you use rooting hormone?

I just put them into my usual 50/50 mix of perlite & potting mix, and I pack the potting soil around them pretty firmly, the way Rob suggests doing when rooting a crown cutting.

Sometimes they root in just a week or two (especially if they already have a tiny root or two that came away with them), sometimes they seem to take forever.... but if you keep the humidity level up (which is not the same as keeping the soil really wet... I put mine under a dome or in a terrarium), the leaves will stay nice & crisp, and the cutting will survive until it strikes roots.

I haven't tried rooting hormone with suckers, but my leaves seem to be doing better without it.

Thanks for the tips critter :)

I just stick them as far as they can touching into the same soil-less mixture I wick , never cover and puff..most root and are growing in a week or so :)) Easy as pie I've done hundreds like this ! I love suckers :))

Hmm mine have not rooted yet but will leave them there a while longer
My leaves are happily rooting though!

Hey Allison..have you ever heard of Mickey Mouse? I got some leaves from a friend...I think it is a mini :) The leaves are rooting VERY nicely!

Yes I have had a few. It's not easy to get. I had one couple years ago before I was into putting down leaves and gave it to my sister to cheer her up. She
killed it. I bought another one last year it suckered , I have the small sucker , sold Mom plant and have a couple leaves down. It is not an easy plant to find.
