cp hangs on shut down

hi all,
hope i can get some help here,on shut down from start menu computer hangs on blue screen , no message
i have windows me,768 mb,compaq computer 800 mhz
have tried full restore,re install windows,mcafee scan ,spy bot,regestry cleaner
nothing seems to help, it will be ok 2 or 3 shut downs then back to the blue screen
all i can do is shut down with the power button.
any suggestions????? thanks
