Thought of you all yesterday!

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Visited North Haven Gardens nursery shop yesterday in N. Dallas. It's touted as the best nursery in Dallas for the TRUE plant enthusiast, collector or horticultural nut. Hmm.....so, is there something wrong with you if you qualify under all three descriptions? lol

Anyway, they have a begonia collection that they sell in their greenhouse.....they have inside benefit on obtaining great hybrids in that DON MILLER lives nearby, and contributes. Ahhhhhhh......I was in Heaven. =) Got several great new plants.......'Strawberry Cream,' 'Splotches,' 'Thompson's Folly,' a 'U059,' and a huge-caudex'd 'Partita.' [oops, just drooled on the keyboard....lol]

They hold scheduled seminars for garden clubs, and said that I could have one on Begonias there, taught by THE Don Miller!!!!!

Sounds like the kind of place that a plant lover could spend the whole day and enjoy every minute of it. Do they do mailorder by any chance?

And here is B. 'Splotches', one of my very favorites. I have it in a hanging basket and it will be 4' long by summer.

You're killing me. Hold on while I mop up my drool.... I hope to find some beauties like these when I visit FL in a few months.

Oh, you lucky dog, Lucilu! A friend was over here yesterday, asked, "So, how many cultivars did they have?" I told him, "Ah, about 30, maybe?" Silence, then "Ok, so at $5 a plant, we'll need about $150 to come home with one of each!"

Cracked me up.......like minds DO think alike!! Let us know what you pick up over there.....I'm going back over there this week myself......

Last year at the Austin Zilker fest the Austin begonia club was selling many varieties for around $3. Roadtrip!

Their very pretty ! I like the red's. I had a real pretty Purple one. I grew it inside for a long time it grew rapid the color was gorgeous deep purple. I planted it outside and it grew crazy :)) Year round and bloomed tiny little pretty striking orange flowers. People were always taking cuttings . Me to but I was always sending my tiny plants away to sister and friends. Now I can kick myself for not taking it or cuttings when we moved. I have bought a few different ones in cute little saucer pots bright plastic purple at Lowes. I need to have my husband look for another one. I just love the colored plants ! Thanks for sharing your ! Allison

Ok, I'm back from North Haven Gardens! AND THE Don Miller was there! I think he was surprised that I went up and introduced myself and told him how much we appreciated him. He was surprised that we spoke of him!

Of course, I then HAD to buy a "Don Miller" begonia! They had so many choices, I'll have to pull the names, but one was a very small leafed trailing and one was a small leafed spotted. So very cute! Liz
