Nemanthus propagation question

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Keyring ya out there? I had a leaf break off my new N. fissus plant and I want to know if it will reproduce. There is not much of a petiole left but the leaf is in pretty good shape.

I know if you take and angel wing begonia (or hoya) and root the leaf w/ petiole, it will root, but you may be eons before you get a plant if at all.

Thanks for any help!

afaik, you need some stem for nematanthus. If you don't even have much petiole, I don't think it will work.

That said, the same is generally said for columnea and aeschynanthus. The standard process is to take 2-3 node cuttings for reliable fast propagation.

However, there was some discussion recently over on gesneriphiles about true leaf cuttings of columnea and aeschynanthus. Apparently it is possible to get them to root, and some may put up shoots. Someone reported that the ones that sent up shoots first formed big calluses. The chances are rather low and it takes a lot of time, but interesting experiment......

What about chiritas do they work like AV's for a leaf - had two broken leaves of that as well.

Also took two cuttings of my variegated Aeschynanthus today. Nice little nubbies to work with (at least I think it's an Aeschynanthus) here's a photo.

How to Grow Chiritas

Chiritas produce thick leaves in a flat rosette, and bear trumpet-like blooms above on upright stems. Culture is same as for violets, but they can be more tolerant of neglect.

I find Chirita leaves rot in my regular mix - instead, I root them in a mix of equal parts perlite and vermiculite. So far, 100% success in that mix.

I don't know what happen but I put my Chirita leaves in same soil as AVs ...Plants grow super fast with blink of my eyes !!! the Mom leaf never rotted Sense end Sept I have 7 large plants taking up too much room lol makes me just want more !!!!.

I think Chiritas like Florida... or perhaps it's that they just like Allison! :-)

I don't know why but the ones I've grown I have had good luck with. Just make sure Streps are not over watered. lol Under water and they go limp they will come back..over water they go limp they will die. This happens cut off leaves place them in little cup with warm water they will harden back up and you can at least to set them down for babies ! Keep them dry !
