I went out into the garden today and collected seeds.
It is a wonderful plant;about 6.5 ft high. The birds love it!

Will trade for SASE.

I would love to trade some giant sunflower seed, mexican sunflower, cox comb, or variety of morning glory for some.

Athens, OH

Would you happen to have moon glory? If not what type of morning glories do you have? I love the velvety purple variety and the variegated variety.

I looked at your trade list and was wondering if you might be willing to trade some Apricot Blush Digitalis purpurea cv. seeds for the Rudbeckia Maxima.

I have a real problem with deer and they don't like digitalis.

Sure, that will be great.
Send me your address and I'll get them in the mail.

Bren-
I don't normally collect seeds. I can grow plants (lots...about 800 varieties) but seed germination is still a mystery to me.
So... please let me know how it goes and if you figure out a good way to propagate these by seed, please let me know.

I allowed the plant to self seed, so we'll see if I have any babies this year.

Dear All-
I found this info at the Brooklyn Botanical website:

Rudbeckia maxima can also be propagated from seed collected in the fall (September and October); seed is sometimes hard to find and difficult to germinate. If you want to try, first stratify or cool the seed in a refrigerator at approximately 40oF (4oC) for three months. Then sow the seed in flats or small pots filled with a lightweight soil mix. Young seedlings can be thinned and transplanted into individual containers during March and April and will be ready for transplanting into the garden in May and June.

Another site:
Germination: These perennial seeds germinate very irregularly over a long period. Lower temperatures of less than +5°C (41°F) are very effective. Seed trays should not be discarded prematurely. Constant moisture must be maintained. Do not leave in direct sunlight.
