Grandmother's receipes

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

You all are going to love this! I talked to my grandmother the other day. She is 97 and now in a rest home. She lived by herself until she fell and broke her hip when she was 94. Needless to say she had one of the prettiest yards on the block. She gave me several "receipes" she used for her garden.

Happy Plant Tonic
1/2 tbsp. burbon
1/2 tbsp. ammonia
1/2 tbsp hydrogen peroxide
1/2 tbsp. dish soap
1/4 cup of tea
mix with 1 gal of tepid water and spray. Will take care of bug and diseases.

Yes Grandma, I bet they are happy!!

Kell your gonna love this one:

Black spot remover
1 tbsp baking soda
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp dish washing soap
mix with one gallon of tepid water and spray lightly. Will get rid of black spot and bugs on roses.

She never told anyone about her receipes. I have to laugh but ever since I was a child I remember her mixing and spraying all her roses and plants.I'm not saying that these worked but I will have to say her garden outshined anyone elses. She told me that God gave me a head now use it!! LOL! She even gave me a varmit spray to keep all the varmits away.

Just thought you all would like to know what an older southern lady used in her garden.

I bet they do work! She must be thrilled that you are following in her footsteps. Does she ever get to come visit you at your home? I hope they have a lovely garden where she lives now.

I really should be ashamed of myself but she lives about 4 hours away, and with all the "bad" things going on in my life I just stay in touch by phone. Hubby cut left thumb off, then fell off a ladder had surgery on right wrist, granddaughter born with club feet and then no heel, more surgery!! I believe that all of this going on it would be to much on her, much less the trip here.
She even gave me a receipe for barnyard tea.....ugh! But I have to agree with you I bet they do work. I have never seen her buy anything for her garden except octagon soap, Hydrogen peroxide, tobacco (she uses alot of this soak in warm water), baking soda, mouthwash, and other basics. Sometimes the old ways are better than all these new chemicals.

Melanie, thanks for sharing this wish us. I sure wish my granny was around to give me some of her recipes.

Ahh too bad Melanie, but you must be so busy. 4 hours away is a good distance too. I hope your husband and grandbaby are OK now. Sounds like you guys have had a real hard time of it. I am so sorry!

Just like you Kell our extended family here just don't know what they can do for other people, even though they don't realize it. DG has been my lifeline.

Melanie,
I am sorry you are going thru a rough time,it is very hard on everyone in the family.

Your grandmothers recipes sound great ,some of them my MIL mentioned years ago,not the same but simular. We also like the homemade concoctions, alot of times because we didn't have on hand what we thought we needed so we mixed away with good results :-) ..now she lives in TN.

Wonder if any other members have some good old tried recipes ?
Take care ,
Brigitte
