new to gardening

Newark, TX

new to texas and gardening but I've got a pretty knowledgeable neighbor
just started a raised lasagna style garden and it's coming along quickly
began with layer of cardboard
then 350 bags of leaves scavanged from around town
today we loaded two truckloads of composted horse manure mixed with stable chips on top of the leaves
I figured you folks would enjoy the pictures of our progress and possibly throw in advice here and there

Keep us updated! That is the largest-scaled lasagna style garden I've ever seen. I've always secretly wanted to market garden and would love to know how that works this spring. What part of Texas are you in?

Welcome to Dave's Garden mdavid01! Always nice to have another Texas around.
It will be interesting to see how you progress. I put Newark on Mapquest and see it is just inside Wise County where it meets Tarrant County; you aren't too far north of me in SW Fort Worth. Did you plan the garden for vegetables?
Sheila
Oh, make sure to put the Statewide Roundup on your calendar! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555362/

After two truckloads of manure mixed with composted stall shavings the leaves are just barely covered. We'll be going back for a couple more truckloads this week.

Let us know how things grow in this. I've never heard of this type of gardening. Sounds like it should be primo growing medium.

we are planning on growing vegtables and fruits in the lasagna garden.
we just had another portion of the yard plowed for a watermelon patch.
the garden isn't going to be completely ready this year but should grow some lettuce and garlic for us....we'd also like some tomatoes and asparagus

Welcome and thanks for the photos- my daughter is a huge fan of Lasagna gardens!
Gardening in Texas is a whole new world, lucky for you that you have a good neighbor!
