Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, I guess you already know that's how it starts.... 3 irresistable beauties, then another 3, then... !!!

Fair warning that hanging around this forum has fomented a few AV addictions!

Thanks for sharing that great photo!

I was highly fomented. Now I have little leaf pots everywhere. (Nice word, Jill. Try goluptious) Welcome to the insanity. Like Orchids, but cheaper. -And more pettable.

Here's an odd Question for you, Bob. What species of shed leaves are in the background of your new pet's picture? I get carried off by curioity some days.

Kenton James

(Hey, Allison, Happy Fresh Year. I need to Mail you a picture of 'Rob's Argyle Socks' now! is just gets better. Poor'ol frozen 'Space Cadet' now has three rosettes that arose from the dead crown!)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Ha! I can't explain it, words like that sometimes pop up from my keyboard, especially late at night. I do like the term golluptious, too, and I hadn't seen it in a while. Out of curiousity to see in what context I might be able to find it, I googled "golluptious" and found it printed on a tank top along with "callipygian," one of my other favorite words that I learned when I was 16...

HAPPY 2006!!!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

HE he..Happy New Year everyone...well i had been addficted back in the 60's and 70's..my first love now is Plumeria..and tropicals...but i must quickly add...i bought a gloxinia few years ago....set it in the shade in my"jungle" ..paid no attention to it..and it has weathered every storm and still blooms...lol....

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Happy New Year 2006 !
Plumerias are great also JungleBob ! and those Gloxinias are unreal !

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi James..those leaves are from my Baldy Cypress tree..and what a MISTAKE to have planted it...it's a marvelous tree..but the roots go everyplace and they are called KNEES because that's what they look like....i am certain it helped save my mobil home from the hurricanes..but oh..the roots............if you want some seedlings...they are everyplace...lol..

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

DOES anyone kinow of the Lyndon Lyon greenhouse and african violets etc in N.Jersey...i dealt with them in the 60's...and they were great and i see they're still in business...anyone have any episcias?..I always loved them.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have a few episcias now grown many but always giving them away. I have Blue Heaven, Aussie's Alice, Grey Lady. , Teddy Bear, Chocolate
Soldier, I have lot's of Albosia Cygnet though in the 60's registered as
an episcias now they have changed that and given it it's own category.

I have never bought from Lyndon Lyon but their going strong !

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

well might as well ask if anyone has streptocarpus as well...lol...Violet that's great to know...the chocolate soliders are neat...where did you get yours at?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

forgot to mention..that at Home Depot yesterday also saw the self watering pots there...consist of 2..the bottom pot you put in water..and the top pot with violet or other..is porous and takes up water when needed...might be better than the old wick thing..but expensive i'm sure..maybe some of you have devised your own methods of this procedure...suspect one could do the same thing with styrofoam "doubling"...?..will have to play with that and see..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I don't remeber where I got my Chocolate Soldier maybe in a trade ?
I can send you some !
I have a few Streps and some leaves down and some have babies coming up ! I think I will buy a few more in Spring. Not that I have the room. lol
I find just using plastic pots from one inch to pan pot sizeto go with the plant. I keep it pretty simple. Solo dixie cups 3 oz. for leaves down and they are all kept and grown in the clear plastic shoe box size and larger containers under lights. The top of the boxes are super great ! I use them for trays. My plants are wicked and placed on tray according to size . This way when they need watering it is just poured into the trays. If it has not been drank by half hour or so it's dumped. I like a long wick twirled in the bottom of the pot and brought all the way to the top sticking out a pinch , as this help the water get to all the roots better and everyone is happy. The 2 piece pots I bought when I first started to grow and then went to local AV group and saw how everyone else was growing I don't plant right into them. For display I put the plastic wicked
pots into them, or tea cups/saucers, any cute little holders I can find !

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

violet...sounds great...glad you folks are doing soi well with these treasures..I start many of my plumeria seeds in the plastic shoeboxes...i have left them in there for 1 year at a time ..and amazingly...they have done pretty well....but..i DON'T recommend that..

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I just have a couple plumerias from cuttings that started way back about 8 years ago and keeping a cutting hwne moving !
As soon as I get caught up with other boxes I can send you some Streps I'm growing by leaf ( when their large enough ) and Epsicas :))
And anything else you might enjoy. I will be posting a trade or just shipping list soon. Were both in Florida makes it easy ! Allison

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

thank you Allison...I have several cuttings of Plumeria..i can share when you're ready...sounds like you'll be busy for a while...understand completely...bob

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Wow I have some nice Chiritas too ! They are so cool I love growing them !

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

do you have pic of the charitas?

Denver, CO

Well well well, Bob. I will mail you.

And you, Allison, when I get new photos taken. 'Space Cadet' is the fastest grower now.

Jill, did you strive for callipygianism? I must admit that I didn't know that one. I wonder if it refers to Calypso's rear end? NO, I just looked up the derivation. Calli- Beatiful, Puge- Buttocks. Lovely, Jill. I will mail you with a book suggestion.

Kenton
