Alright here is the deal, I have a three year old pond. It is shaped like a fish.. yes the outline of a fish. Well I need to add a new liner and I am looking for something to edge it in (the bricks I was useing tore the sides of the old liner and messed it up bad) My wife would rather it not be rocks... any ideas what I can use, get easy, will keep the shape of a fish. and keep the liner safe? Any ideas would be helpful - the pond in 15 feet long by about 8 foot wide taking into account the depth (1 1/2 foot deep).
Thanks Mitch
Help! What to do about my pond edge
There is a great product called Edg-Keeper. Slick to install and really does the job of keeping soil and other debris from migrating over the edge into the water.

Happenstance, I visited your thread, and your pond is gorgeous.
Happenstance, that is a great looking product! Thanks for the info, love your thread with your pond expansion too.
Hi Mitch! I would definately be interested in this product for Spring expansion of our pond and to cut down on the debris entering the pond after a heavy rain. If you decide it will work for you, maybe we can find a way to order together and get a lower shipping cost or split the cases. On the one link, it shows they come in cases of 6 pieces of 7 1/2 foot lengths. http://www.justliners.com/edging.htm
I have contacted the manufacturer to ask for a distributor in our area, and will let you know what I find out.
Sheila
Thanks Sheila - it will be great to find a place close to here that sells it. I hate to pay shipping on anything!
Hello pond people. I want to put in a pond and am trying to figure out how much it would cost. My friend will dig the hole with his backhoe. I would like it to be at least 15" x 8' x 2' deep. I want it fairly deep at one end because I live in zone 6 and I would like to overwinter fish if possible. I am thinking about putting it next to a small drop off in my yard and using the edge for a waterfall.
Sounds expensive? Any guidelines on how to make this dream come try for less. I will do most of the work.
Hi fivetoes, nice to meet you. You only have a few things that rack up the bucks. Your big money items are the pump/filter, liner and waterfall kit if you use one, otherwise the rocks don't cost quite that much. Did you mean 15" up there? The first thing you have to do is figure the size liner you need. Don't forget to add in for plant ledges if you plan to have those and about foot to lay on the ground around the pond for edging. Once you know the size of your pond, you can start thinking about a pump and if you need a filter. The size of your pump will have to take into consideration the size of your pond, and how high water has to be carried from wherever you place it to the top of the waterfall.
I just put in another pond with the dimensions of 10x15x4 with a couple feet of liner to spare on the ground because I want to add levels to it. The liner was around $300. The pump I need for that size pond is about $200 depending on where I buy it and what brand. I won't buy a filter because I use rocks and plants to clean the water. I've never used any type of pre-fab water fall or skimmer either so I am not much help on those.
Good luck!
Hi Badseed, nice to meet you too. I meant 15' no inches. Your cost seem better then the kits I have been looking for online.
What kind of rocks help filter the water?
Whoops! Sorry! I didn't click the thread to watch it. I don't think the type of rock is all that important. You just want to make sure it is something you can clean easily enough and make sure they are rinsed really well before you use them. I took and old wheel barrow and drilled holes in it so I could use it to rinse rocks. LOL I mostly used baseball sized granite and pea gravel. I bought my newest liner from http://www.harrisonsponds.com/catalog/liner/45milliner.shtml They are great and ship same day if possible. I think it only took 1 day to get mine but they were fairly close to me. You can buy precut or pick a size and it's only pennies more to get the liner. Best I remember, the best pump prices (especially with free shipping) were at www.azponds.com This is one of those things where it is definately best to do your homework. You can always add more gadgets and toys later like uv lights, pond lights, etc. I've not ventured into any of those.
Thanks Chele (please tell me that is how you spell it!!)
Hey, I'll answer to almost anything. LOL BUT, you did get it right. :)
Chele - I have wanted to use your name for a long time (notice the Genimi Gardens I used due to the fact I had no idea for sure... I am sooooo bad with names) just cannot call you bad anything.... I know I worry tooooo much but it keeps me on my toes.
Awe, it's okay. I know you are a good guy. You put up with more kids in a day than I do. LOL
Michele or Chele work. Just don't call me Shellie. That one and "Michelle my belle" really make me wanna hurt something. ; O
No problem - now I get it... I wondered how in the world to say Chele - Michele.... now I get it... thick skull here.
Oh well better late then never - right?
Have you posted new pics of your place? I was right with you for the longest and now I have lost the threads of your progress... makes me dream of when we are going to have our own little place to work on and get running..... one day!
I am afraid to say I have not made any remarkable strides lately. I've been doing lots of planning for the grounds here and lots of ordering and planning for the business end of things but otherwise I have somewhat fizzled out. I know my second wind is coming, so stay tuned. LOL And thank you very much for asking.
Good luck getting yours!
