Sprouting in the frig!

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I forgot about the jounquil(nar...nassis...narcis.....aw...daffodils) I dug up and stored in the frig when I re-did a foundation planting last spring now I have bulbs(50 or so) sprouting in my frig and still not a clue were I want to plant them. Hub's just gifted me with a half a truckload of sand and I was wondering if I can dump them in a large nursery bucket and cover them with sand as a temporary home.....and if I do and it works, would I harm the plants when and if they bloom, take them out and plant them where the colors work best..about 4 different varieties.

Peggy, you may just want to pot the bulbs up and leave them in the garage. They'd probably root in the sand and be difficult to separate come spring. I've read that bulbs forced in sand, pebbles, or just water are spent after bloom(because of being grown in an inert medium), so that would concern me about using sand to. I just got the last of mine out of the fridg yesterday. They're now potted and against the house, covered with mulch. Good luck, Neal.

I feel no guilt, you lucky zone 8 person you! LOL My bulb planting scenario last week included loosening a frozen lid of soil from an area, planting, and replacing the lid, all in blustery weather. That at least should make you feel better about digging, especially with temps in the 60s. We've had an unseasonably cold December, but today it was in the 50's and sunny :) Have fun planting, Neal.

If I can find a spot,I'm just gonna dig a big ole trench and dump them in.

Planting them in pots gives you the opportunity to transplant them at any time and a lot less stressfull then when planted in a trench.
