HI Welcome to African violet forum ! They do like it comfortable. Are you comfortable without a sweater in the room ? Just sitting there ? Then they may be, Really 65 is the lowest I'd go but I try to stay 70-75.
Be careful of windowsills they can be 10 degrees colder than your rooms. I put thermometers ( I keep them there year round) right on my plant stands and shelves., where ever they are windows. Also don't let them touch the cold glas, and the SUN glaring off of sow can burn their leaves. When it is cold water less, I use warm/hot water they don't like their feet cold. They will grow slow if too cold. Babies/leaves down will either grow slow or maybe not at all. If it goes below 60 for long periods of time they could die.
Tell us more about your plants please . I keep my lights on all night it help keep them warm as it's been in the 40's here at night. Some people use heat mats...Allison

How many years have you been enjoying AVs? You are such an invaluable source of information.

Not long. lol I always had a few here and there in our home. But I always worked a lot and the kids growing up never had time to sit down. Then when I became disabled all the kids are married I fount named African violets ! I think I started buying named African Violets about three years ago. In March 2006 will be the second year I've had my first light plant stand. This is about when I really started to put leaves down. I learned from local Av group that started in 1955 ? I think. Many long time growers . I was able to learn so much, plus I have read a lot of great books. I fount I love growing Av's by leaf and fast and easy ! I grew around One thousand different varieties in the past year and half . I gave most away. I still have around 200 maybe little more varieties growing mostly babies for Spring trade. I keep the Mom's which most of them I enjoy growing in natural light for my enjoyment and people who visit.
I have a very small home so I don't have a lot of room. One solo cup with a leaf down can soon turn into 3,or even 6 pots of babies then times that time 200, 300, 500 ..lol It's Fun for me !

That you have grown so many varities and even the number of AVs you currently have. I think I have always found my best information from "old timers" willing to teach- lucky to have found that group.
It's nice to find something that you enjoy and that you are so good at, and the cherry on top is all the happiness your AVs have given others as well as your ability to teach those of us who know so little. Thank you for answering the Girl foliage question. I appreciate it.

Hey Dimmer,

I keep my thermo. at 65. My violets are doing fine. The lowering temperature was gradual over the Fall.

Our heat is going none stop and I keep lights on all night to help. During the day does the sun come in and warm your home ? Ours does most days but today and lately it never warmed heat just ran and ran. I have to stay warm if I get sick that's it and my husband health too he's always cold. And were in Florida. lol
