Maybe not the most traditional Christmas gift ...

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

This year with finances tight, I requested that my family make donations to my account at my vet's office as Christmas gifts for me, and several of them obliged in generous ways. Thank goodness. Weasel decided to be the first to benefit from their Christmas generosity by developing a nasty upper respiratory ailment. Poor Beezbeez. He's been hiding for several days, becoming more and more congested and running a nasty fever. I've been pumping him full of antibiotics, baby aspirin (as per Dr. Paul's orders), and subQ fluids to try to bring the fever down. In spite of it all, he sounded even worse last night, and his temp was on the rise again. I just couldn't wait any longer, so I called Paul to see if he'd be willing to see Weasel last night. Joe, good daddy that he is, drove the 1 1/4 hrs to Paul's clinic with Weasel last night (not getting back home until after 1:00 a.m. this morning).

Paul took blood for a panel and leuk test, gave Weasel another antibiotic, and sent them home. The panel showed nothing but a little dehydration and stress, leuk was neg., no indications of bacterial infection. Apparently Weasel just wanted to wish Uncle Paul a Merry Christmas, however, because he's feeling MUCH better this morning! His temp is down, and aside from continuing congestion, sneezing, and noisy breathing, Weasel is acting like his normal self. No more hiding, no more pathetic, garbled growling or weak little mews, better appetite, and even some purring and attention seeking.

Now if only the faucet handle hadn't blown off the shower and sprayed water all over the bathroom this morning ...
