This is Penny. She was DH's first doberman and still his fave dog even after being gone for almost 16 yrs. He used to take her hunting with him as she was unafraid of gunfire. She loved to chase and catch squirrels, field rats and snakes. My FIL had cattle at the time and she loved to chase them and nip them on the leg. They never could kick her- LOL! She also loved rolling in the cow pattys- much to DH's dismay!! She would eat huge amts of it and DH would have to rinse her mouth out with a waterhose- LOL! She was fearless and an excellent watch dog. She even alerted the neighborhood of a brush fire and wouldn't get away from the fire. She was very protective of DH's toddler niece and nephew. She would bark if they started going out of the yard or near the road. She would patiently lay for hours in the sandbox and let them cover her up with sand and let then ride her like a pony.
DH and I had only been married for a few months when she got killed by a car. I have an inkling as to who it was[someone next door] but I can't prove it. This fella had left for work in a hurry that day and that night he came in and told his wife that a deer had hit the side of his truck. It was on the passenger side and on the same side of the road where she was found. DH later looked at the truck. It was pretty low on the door and the size of the dent was more like a dog and not a deer. We never confronted him as we really had no hard proof.
Sorry the pics are bad as they are scans of older ones. [DH's face obscured as per his request for privacy.]
Penny 1979-1990 RIP
