Ive been noticing these strange appendages on the undersides of Anthurium cruentum for a while now. Any ideas on what causes this? Also reminds me of appendages seen on a few other aroids like Colocasia gigantea and Xanthosoma atrovirens 'appendiculatum'.

Appendeges on Anthuriums
I have seen this odd mutation on a few aroids. It seems to be a common type of mutation in aroids. I have seen some that are on every leaf and others were it is just a fluke for a few leaves then back to normal. Another area I have seen similar oddities is out of Tissue Culture. When one plant has been copied thousands of times not from the original plant but copies of copies you start to see odd mutations some good some bad. The most we are familiar with were copies of copies but naturally and can take hundreds of years to form these odd mutations that get selected out. But with the TC labs they are doing thousands of years of lineage in just a few years. From this I have seen bananas that do not unfurl their leaves correctly and every leaf gets torn on the last unfurled leaf. Then again I have seen caladium's with leaves that look more like grass small strands of very narrow pink strap leaves which look nothing like a regular caladium. I have pictures of odd mutations like these. A familiar one is off of Xanthosoma albo marginata called Xanthosoma pandora named by Eduardo. I thought this was a few forms when I discovered it a few years ago. Only to find out eduardo had also made the discovery off his plants the year before. Here is a pic of the plant.
