Hi. I'm looking for some Stella D'Oro (hybrid ok) daylily seeds for postage or trade! Please LMK if you have any available.
Thanks!!
Wanted: Stella D'Oro Seeds
Yes, I have Stella D'Oro seeds, What do you have to trade?
Hi. I have a lot of Confederate Rose seeds, also have a few toad lily seeds left over from previous trade, or if you're interested in bulbs... Crinum bulbs or Peruvian Daffodil bulbs.
Please LMK if any of these sound interesting, or if you'd prefer postage/SASE.
Do these come true from seed? I always wondered but never save my seed because I wasn't sure.
Hi Windy. Are you asking about the Stella D'Oro? Unfortunately, I don't think they do. But that is ok with me =)
Thanks, Maybe I will save some seed this year and see what pops up. I like the surprises.
I just moved and divided my plant after one year. They grow pretty quickly.
almcfarla, yes I would be interested in a trade for some toad lily seeds. How about 10 seeds for 10 seeds? LMK and I will get the stellas in the mail to you. Are you in addy exchange? I am.
We have grown Stella D'Oro from seed & they do come true... at least I cannot see any differences! I believe the seeds may require stratification... We have good luck storing them in an unheated garage, or you can toss the seeds in your garden & see what Spring brings.
Julie
almcfarla, would you have 10 more seeds of toadlily for 10 seeds of Stella D'Oro? This year, I brushed anthers from Victorian Star over the pistil of Stella D'Oro. Not sure Victorian Star's genes would show up in the first batch of seedlings, but if you kept crossing the seedlings with a similar daylily, you might get something pretty special eventually. Both Victorian Star and Stella D'Oro have been late rebloomers in my garden.
We've had good luck sowing daylily seeds in sterile, moistened medium and putting in downstairs refrigerator in a loose plastic bag for 6 weeks. Check before 6 weeks are up, though, because sprouting has occurred for us before then. My germinating source says that the 40+ temp of the refrig is better than freezing, but I do wonder about that in light of the success folks have had with wintersowing.
I understand some people have germinated daylily seeds successfully in a solution of 1 tsp hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon water (preferably distilled, but some say it works okay with tap). Will see if I can find that thread and come back and post.
waving at JulieR -
here's that thread - it's long and JLD's post of 4/12/04 at 1:27 pm pretty well encapsulates a lot of it - but there are so many uses for H202 - http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/423028/

Julie and Blue,
Thanks for the info on sowing them! I've heard both good and bad results from sowing. I'm glad to hear that it looks like they come pretty true from seed too!
Blue,
You have dmail!
I know the candy lilies are really easy from seed. I once had gotten a regular daylily seed packet in a trade. I put them in the fridge in that scratchy white stuff you add to potting soil. I just sprinkled them in and tossed it like a salad. Then I watered it enough to make it really moist, put the glass bowl into a gallon zip bag and sealed it. I put them in the fridge.
When spring came I took them out and put them in some potting soil directly in the ground. Never expected anything to happen.
After two years they got flowers. One was a lovely flute edged peach and the other a plum and yellow eyed one. It was worth the wait. I now have them as big as normal size and they bloom every year. Pretty cool to know they came from seed.
I bet my stella were self seeding and I didn't even notice.
