Broccoli 'Green Goliath'
Brassica oleracea

My regular broccoli. I plant them in Spring and enjoy them until winter, lots of side shoots.

Hi Andy! I am planning on putting this broccoli in my garden this year. How much room should I leave for each plant?

Hope you're well!

Hi, Harper. If you feed them well give them 20 to 24 inches on all sides. You know, half a spade full of compost per plant with added slow release fertilizer. I plant quick growing kohlrabi between the broccoli.
I planted my seeds last week, they will go in the garden in early May.

Thanks Andy!

Let me update the photo of this wonderful broccoli. It's early, big and tasty.
I had to buy some seedlings at a farm stand because my old seeds didn't germinate well. The purchased plants look fine but stil no heads.

Nice!! Mine never made a head. It's all just leaves.

Hi, Harper. They should make a head soon. The above was only the first, some have yet to head up.
Are the plants big and healthy looking?
It was very hot last year, a couple never made a neat head. They made lots of small heads with leaves inside.

One started making a head. The plant is appox 16" tall, the leaves are about 10", and sorta thin. I'm thinking there's not enough sunlight. I'll take a pic when I get a moment.

That sounds awfully small. They need a solid 6 hours of full sun and lots of food. My plants are 18 inches apart and they crowd each other out. They are much wider than they are tall.
