Did you notice the article said "from Canada"? We had butterflies when I was a kid. Lawn chemicals have reduced all kinds of insects. Frankenstein corn hit the Monarchs hard.
I think genetically modified corn was a poetic twist of fate since corn wasn't a natural plant to begin with. Modern science hasn't yet figured out all of what scientists put into it several millenia ago. (Tripsacum x Zea x ???)
