V_T Thanks for the post. I am trying new ways to prop. plants. I have one stalk starting as shown in the posted sight. I am also trying leaving the stalk on the mother plant and allow the baby to grow. I understand that you can remove it and treat it as a succor.

Thanks again

I have really enjoyed that site. I joined yesterday, well asked to join, haven't heard back as to weather I'm 'approved' or not. But Ilove the newbie nook and the leaf/flower type photos! Great info for this newbie!

I'm still a bit confused about the Chimera's .... can you still root the leaves to make new plants, but they just won't look like the mother plant? And, will they still bloom, but you just don't know what it will look like until it does bloom?

Thanks for the above links!

Hi
I was trying to find the thread where I had a bloom stalk Basket baby on one of my plants, I took pictures , cut it off , and potted it up step by step, I think I ever went back later and posted picture of plant growing nice.
A bloom stalk will somtimes grow leaves on it. When the flower gets spent cut just the flower off let the leaves grow larger pot them in small cup/pot and it will grow you a baby in no time !
Sometimes like it the thread I made a little baby sucker will grow on the bloom stalk. This is a bloom stalk basker. Do the same thing cut flower off let baby grow little more pot up just like a sicker and you will get a plant true to Mom.
"NOW" none of this is one hundred percent acurate. Just like Suckers they do not 100 percent bloom true and all Chimeiras should be grown to bloom true before selling or buying .
I have read in a few articles in AVSA Magazine and other books that depedning where the leaf is cut and if some leaves put down do bloom true with Chirmiras matter fact this one article said 50 percent.
There is not reason why you can not try it you just have to wait to see if it blooms true.
But even with Sucker, Bloom stalk leaves or basket the same thing goes you still have to make sure it blooms true.
The plant has to be grown out at least three genrations to make sure it is stabel before registering it. Mom plant does not count. So a suckers from Mom plant must bloom true, then a Sucker from that plant must bloom true, then a sucker from the thrie plant must bloom true. Many hybridiers let their plants grow out 4 and 5 generations to insure it is stable before registering or selling.
It not the plant can revert back to either parents . It still can. Even Rob from violet barn said for example the Chimeria The Alps they have had bloomed all white.
ALL Chimieras are Mutants, Sports.
Now there are foliage Chimeiras . Pretty rare !
Have you ever heard of Little Stinker it's a Special variegated Foliage Av called a Chimeira foliage and to be sure it keeps it's variegation need the same methods of progations, Suckers or bloom stalks.
An example of a Chiemra Foliage Av is ;
Rob's Lucky Penny (8611) 05/31/1997 (R. Robinson) Semidouble white pansy/dark blue eye, variable thin blue edge. Variegated light-medium green and white, pointed, glossy; sucker propagation. Miniature
The flowers are not Chimeira but the foliage is. They take longer to progate and must be true before sold causing them to cost more.
What's cool is Rob's Foliage Chimerias are Sports from solid green plants !
Nancy not sure if any of those links above shoed it. ?? I have been lucky one of my trailing Chimeiras gave me 5 bloom stalk baskets !
I cut up many a Chimeira and did not like doing it. I was not trying to get a whole bunch to sell. I no longer wanted to scalp my plants. So I fount it I took a leaf off the crown, and the plant went on the dry side causing it to stress out it would start sucking and then the suckers can be potted up with out scalping my Mom plants !
