LED lights recall

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

In places as far apart as Kamloops and Halifax, LED lights have been melting and causing fires. These are outdoor lights, made in China between August and Dec/05. Code on the tag is 228296. Each string contains 35 bulbs.

Unplug and return to your place of purchase. . Very sadly, our huge tree in front of city hall is decorated with these lights so ... no lights for rest of the season I guess. Our city hall tree is decorated while on its side, before it is hoisted into position.

Glad I didn't buy any of those new fangled lights. I know they are more "fuel efficient" but I like the sparkle of the old kind. Not to worry this year though, still no lights up.

Thanks for the warning Ginny....thankfully there's none at our house. Years ago we had one bulb short and discovered that the tip of the branch had melted. I was very grateful that we didn't have a real tree that year.

I don't think the problem is with the leds themselves because they are low voltage and wattage. Problem I believe is the controller or the transformer. Probably a poor design that can't take a short or underrated components leading to heat and a posible fire.
