Solenia Begonia Blooms For Christmas

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

This Begonia has been blooming and it has the best 'true red'! The cultivar is known as Velvet Red, and it's a perfect Christmas red bloom.

Way to go Lynn! It looks like a reiger begonia -is it? Mine is still blooming from this summer. It's salmon.

Yes, it is. This one was planted outdoors during our warm season. The blossoms were not as protected outdoors so they weren't as rich looking. The blossoms really do have that velvety way about them. Is yours from the same cultivar? I'd love to see a pic of it.

Here's a pic of this Begonia taken during last summer. These blooms are so heavy they really need to be staked if the plant is in the ground. I think that next year, I'll put it in a hanging basket so the blooms cascade.
