Holy Cow! Wrangler's Jealous Heart is worth . . .

Scotts Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

. . . $60.00? Whoa.

I'm buzzing through eBay's African Violets and ran across this listing for Wrangler's Jealous Heart: http://cgi.ebay.com/AFRICAN-VIOLET-WRANGLERS-JEALOUS-HEART_W0QQitemZ7731899387QQcategoryZ75640QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Are the flowers edged with real gold or something? [grin] Does it do mop floors and vacuum? If it did windows I'd be seriously tempted. :)

*laugh*
You are too funny!
I have seen sme violets go for a mint on ebay! I can't believe what people will spend on them!
I agree with you though, unless it will clean my house, it isn't worth THAT much!
It is beautiful though..they say you get THAT one but would rather grow it myself and save the cash LOL

LOL! With so many amazing varieties out there, I can't see spending money like that for a single plant rather than getting 10 new ones! :-)

DH chuckles at me, because I'm always on the lookout for garden bargains.... not in order to spend less money on my hobby, oh no, but just to ensure I score the maximum number of plants! There are so many that I "must have" that I seldom splurge on a particular plant.... although, if that begonia with the wonderful, big, dark leaves is still there when I go to the LGS this afternoon, it is coming home with me!

Here's the item # 7731899387

$60 is the starting price - no bids so far. Plus you ahve to wait 2 months for them to ship. i don't personnly think I can stand the anticipation..LOL

It is pretty.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

(subliminal message to critter) get the begonia...get the begonia...get the begonia.....

your pal in Cali needs a cutting.... get the begonia .....get the begonia..

LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ROTFL!

There was no variety name on it.... but it was striking!

I talked myself out of it last time when I realized that my curly spider plant was full enough to hang in the corner that "needed" a new plant. And of course I regretted that decision later! Actually, at $15 it's not that much of a splurge, but I've pretty much blown my garden/landscape budget for the year, LOL. DH & I are going out for lunch (he's working at home this morning, doing telecons), so maybe we'll drop by Dutch Plant Farm. After all, I genuinely do need a big saucer to go under the lime tree.... My latest repair attempt failed, and there was water all over the morning room again last night.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Have a NICE lunch! It's great when you can make a 'date' of going to the nursery, or so I think. DH thinks it's like watching paint dry! LOL

I'm afraid I blew my budget on plants way back in Jan of this year.....

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Huh. Well, DH wanted to go to Longhorn, which is in the *opposite* direction from the LGS. Then he had to scoot in for a meeting. But we did have a nice lunch together. Oh well, I will just head back out this afternoon! If the begonia is there, it is coming home with me.... :-)

LOL... I do well with most of our budget categories, but I'm always running over on gardening & plants. By the end of last year, I'd spent 1/4 of this year's budget already, so this year I know I'll be adding money from my personal budget to the garden budget.... Some people buy shoes, I buy plants. Hey, at least it's not an illegal addiction! ;-)

I think it was a mistake. In his auction he says Merry Christams they have a lot of this plant potted up for new year. He list every Tuesday largw blooming plants foe $ 4.99. but is nor selling until next year again. I should mail him as I know it was a mistake and listing fee was high . Allison

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I just wrote to him, I lmpw it was a mistake. lol
He sells nie large good qulitiy plants.
His auction states " We have suspended shipping until after the first of the year because of the Christmas rush. We would rather wait until the mail clears out to be sure your plants will arrive in a timely manner.

Look for our listings again on January 3, 2006. We would like to wish all of our customers a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. "
It was a listing to let peopple know this and the price a mistake lol Allison

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

I saw it, too, and was thinking "STARTing bid is $60?! That's GOTTA BE A MISTAKE!!!"

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I emailed Dave and he wrote back and said,
we don't expect that violet to sell for that this was our way of telling our customers that have us marked as a favorite place and were looking fo our plants to be on that we were not going to ship until after new year because of the mail being so heavy that some customers wern't getting thier plants on time so we thought we better wait we don't think any one will bid on that plant merry christmas dave

You wonder why would he would want to pay that listing fee ?
Allison

Allison,

That is confusing. I wonder why he didn't just e-mail his prior customers. I too wondered why this plant was listed so high when Bluebird has it for $4.75. I thought maybe it was some type of exotic sport or something. You never know. The chimera that I bid on last week went for some ridiculous amount like $78.00!

Stephanie

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

WOW Stephanie. Lots of bucks, The trailing Chimera I have cost me $a round 53.00 I think I told you. I do have 5 babies in their own pot growing from it ! I have never seen it any where else before or after.
I wanted trailing ones :)) But would never spend that much again as I don't have it. But at least I can share it with a lot of people . Allison

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, if he was trying to generate some buzz for his eBay AVs during his "down time," then I'd say he succeeded! LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I know this is OT, but I had to post a picture.... I GOT THE BEGONIA!

I have no idea what variety it is, and I don't even know what the flowers will be like if it ever blooms.... but isn't that foliage just stunning??

I love it!

Jill it is gorgeous !!! Where did you get it ? What sizeand what kind of po is it in ? Thanks for sharing . ALLISON

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Wow!! That was only $15??? It's beautiful.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Now that's MY kind of begonia. Looks a bit like my 'Chivalry' that I just bought. But yours has that dominant green stripe where as Chivalry has a bit more of the green on each midrib.

Not doubt a bargain at $15, and think of the babies you can make from her! (hint hint...more subliminal messages...)

You can see the begonia Chivalry on the Ades and Gish website. I do not own this photo and am just pointing to their photo.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I was going to post the image, but I'm pretty sure it's a no-no, so here's the link

It could be b. Beatrice Hadrell

I could not get the hyperlink to see Wrangler's Jealous Heart to work. Appears the auction number has a space in it, so it won't show up. I finally did find it, though, and here is a link that ought to work. While 60 dollars may not be worth paying for one violet, it is worth it to have a look at this particularly gorgeous violet: http://tinyurl.com/c9kme

And also to go through that seller's past auctions, because they are selling some mighty beautiful AV's!

Well, phooey! THAT sure didn't work! Okay, if anyone who can't see it wants to have a look at Wrangler's Jealous Heart, go to www.ebay.com and in the search box enter this auction number: 7731899387

THAT should work! :+))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allison, it's a huge plant with big leaves -- that's my kitchen stool it's perched upon! It came from my favorite LGS, Dutch Plant Farm. It is indeed a nice size for $15, but I've been spoiled with some of the bargains I've found lately.... my last big new foliage plant was $3 on clearance at HD!

It does look like 'Chivalry' or like 'Beatrice Hadrell'..... Maybe we'll know when/if it blooms. The leaves have an "eyelash" edge, if that helps in IDing it.

I think it needs to go into a bigger hanging pot, and I'm sure some leaves will break off during the transplanting process, so of course I'll try to start a baby for you, begoniacrazii. :-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thank you ! It's wonderful, Allison
