where are all your violets??????

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

just curious. Where are you growing them? Are they scattered around the house? All in the basement under lights?

All my plants are under lights on shelves in my small apartment. The gesneriads share space with orchids, begonias, succulents, hoyas and bromeliads. The seedlings and cuttings are in sweater boxes under the lights. (It looks like a closet lol.)

Because of the limited space, I tend to grow only a handful of gesneriads into display form. Good bloomers might sit on the table or take a vacation (I mean, business trip) to my office.

oh, the photo is just for color. It's a closeup of a leaf of Smithiantha Texas Freckles - a friend brought me a cutting recently and I can't believe how velvety and plush the leaves are!

that is a super picture! looks soooo soft.

Adult and blooming Saintpaulia occupy a screened East Window (And Kitchen table, etc. on "Exhibit Holidays.) and baby plants are under lights over a fishtank in the bedroom.

Big tropicals and tender patio plants are everywhere, and everything else is freezing outside in the ground or hybernating in mesh bags in the garage.

Garden room has two light stands side by side making 4 lighted shelves
of each 8 ft x 2 ftx :)), 2 Mini Greenhouse . Plants growing in living room has 7 perfect windows, plants growing in Natural light two nice kitchen windows. Though I find Light stands best for leaves/babies I like growing natural light best ! Allison

LOVELY plant :)
I have many in my florida style room but there are a fair amount scattered around the house too!

Silver Spring, MD

Plants are on a lighted plant stand in an east room against a side wall. My work table is under large window that faces east. The room was once a bedroom for two of my children. It is now a kind of study with lots of flowers in it.

After the plants rest and rebloom I put them in my dinning room on an old singer sewing machine which is against a north by northwest window. Directly across from the window is the dining table. I usually have one of the largest varieties as the center piece. Across from the table is the sideboard and I usually have three or four blooming plants there. There is also a small serving table on the northeast wall. Just the right size for another 5 or 6 plants.

There is a great deal of light that comes into the living room, dining room, and front foyer area of the house. There are only half walls seperating these areas. There is a large bay window in the living room that faces east and the whole 3 room area is flooded with morning light.

I've lived here for more than 30 years. 5 of my 7 children were born here. My first husband passed away here. I was married to Bill here 3 years ago on the 27th of this month. Bill retires in 3 years and we will be moving. It will be sad to leave. But for now, it is the perfect spot for my retirement, to begin a new life with Bill, to enjoy our grandchildren, and raise violets.

Thanks for the question and the leaf is very beautiful.

You take beautiful photos Keyring!

90% of my plants are in my basement under grow lights. I rotate my plants when I feel like it, which is often. :) I also grow orchids, hoyas, epis, succulents, hibiscus, and other tropical houseplants under the lights.

The other plants are scattered throughout my house. I have lots of windows--the one requirement when we drew up the plans for our house. I think our builder thought we were crazy! I even have plants in all three of my kids' rooms. My mom initially thought I was nuts putting plants in their rooms and told me the kids would dump them out, tear them up, etc. But they don't. They don't even seem to notice them. I think the kids ignore them because there are just so many!!!
