Since we seem to keep referring to variegated violets, I thought a gallery might be nice. Here are a few must haves for me...
someday they will get added to the collection

and I wouldn't say 'no' to a Miss Priss

Variegated MUST HAVES
Wow! 'Rebel's Cucumber Cool' and 'Rebel's Gingham Elf' chimera are both just stunning! The search is on.... :-)
Rebel's Cucumber Kool " Gorgeous " I have a friend looking for it. She bought leaves seller sent them in hot Summer heat with no insulation they were soggy . She was supose to send news ones in Fall never did. I have been keeping an eye out for it. Almost impossible to find. If it went on Ebay you need to borrow from the bank. lol
Miss Priss not sure I'll let you know if I find one :))

This list may not be 'realistic' but it is a good way to 'dream' at least.
I know as far as begonias, I have a mental wish list - but most aren't available. perhas if I get to the seed bank with the ABS, but even then....
So I suppose we make this a dream list and if someone happens to have it,...then dream come true! (smile)
Oh yes you should. I have ones I wish I could find too. When ver I find a rare I try to grab it :)) Allison
Yeah, those are DEFINATELY "must haves"....I MUST HAVE THEM TOO! ha ha =0)
So I'm curious about something......with all these really "rare" and "hard to find" violets.........where DOES one get ahold of one?
I mean, if I saw something that I just HAD TO HAVE....money no object (yeah right in my dreams)....how would someone go about acquiring such a rarity?
....(or if two or three people wanted to go in together and split the cost and share leaves....?) =0)
not sure about AV's but for begonias, I suppose going to the shows, conventions (in March for us begonia fans - VT that's why I'll be in your neck of the woods), joining lists like this, and the AV society. For begonias, the ABS has the seed bank where you can get seeds very inexpensively and they always ask for contributions to keep the different species and varieties available.
For some of my more obscure ones, I go to the SFO arboretum plant sales. Once a month they have a sale and there is a darling woman who is in charge of the begonias, I try to get at many odd balls as I can.
I think one of the greatest things is that everyone is so willing to share leaves. Especially for the vintage varieties. It is so encouraged and reciprocated!
Well this one's not variegated, but a must have http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/SillyGirlLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/SillyGirlLrg.jpg#

Begonia I'm not sure if I still have her. I do have Wondrous Girl, She is a blooming crazy and I just sold some leaves of her. I forgot what I got I think between 4-5 $$ ?
I also have Simplicity an almost vintage scalloped girl foliage,
Mini Minx rare vintage girl foliage double lavender blossoms.
I'd like to have Baby Girl, Blondie Girl, Blue Girl, Blue eyed girl,
Bubblegum Girl,Double pink girl, Dream girl supreme , Flowr girl,
I grew Heavenly Girl she was pretty variegated :)) I have Orchid Girl,
I'd like Lil Dutch Girl, Little Match girl, Little Ricjh Girl, Love Girl and Lucky Girl,Party Girl,Perpermint Girl,Sailor Girl, Oh my so many I need :))
To get a rare, well you could find a vendor selling one, or in a trade/gift, or on Ebay. Now Beware many sellers say rare and they are not. lol I saw a seller just a couple weeks ago selling a RussianAV leaves and it said Rare only for sale on Ebay. The leaves went pretty high. Well how rare can it be I have it , I have Mom plant and leaves down growing babies, I bought it from Blue Birds greenhouse not on Ebay. Now it is pretty rare and Blue birds sells " ONE " leaf for $ 4.75.
When I see rare, I search if I like it and see where I can buy it from a vendor and most times an AV friend will have one to trade , share :))
