I'm hoping every day that the First Class program I ordered before Christmas will arrive!

'Neptune's Jewels' is lovely!

It looks like one of those large standards. I have a couple of big ones.... Take a look at how 'Buckeye Boysenberry' has grown! I stuck my hand into this photo for scale so you could appreciate the palm-sized leaves! It is getting some buds again.... oooooohhh!

Dang, that thing just gets more divine all of the time, Jill. No blooms yet?

Fancy.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL. Here's its first bloom.... It has grown considerably since then.... I think that's a 2 inch pot!

Here is its first offspring... but it is already "promised" to my Secret Easter buddy. I will put a couple more leaves down this week, and I'm sure that huge plant will be able to spare some more leaves this spring... Unlike 'Neptune's Jewels', this one can be propagated by leaf, so it'll be easy to share him around! :-)

definitely a chimera - it reverted when I leaf-propped. (still pretty, but....)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

yes sure is.

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, okay, okay!!! ;-) Violet_Treasure, you remind me of myself.....super specific about our beloved horti. info! Only, gee....how on earth did I MISS that 'Neptune's Jewels' is a CHIMERA?? Go fig....didn't know I had one! Still can't really tell either......what am I, stupid??

Keyring--I'm still bowled over by your generosity in sending her to me. =)

OK Allison (and any others willing to teach) boy am I confused, in my other life, tropicals and Native Texas plants; with those hybrids I have to make cuttings to reproduce the hybrid, seed produces the parent. What was said, "..it reverted when I leaf-propped..." sounds contrary to my knowledge related to the other life. Can you explain?
Thx

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

chimeras have to be reproduced by a sucker cutting... a leaf cutting doesn't contain all the genetic material in a chimera (it's not uniform throughout the plant), so leaf propagation will probably produce something different than the chimera, most likely something like the plant that the chimera sported from originally.

So, taking a sucker cutting to produce a chimera is like taking a cutting of another hybrid plant.

Oh, that makes sense!
Thanks Critter!
