brug attack
another pic of a sick brug these are mountain treasure or were
Ladybugs love aphids, maybe try those? Are your Brugs in a greenhouse in still outside?
they are indoors under lights i thought about covering them with a tent and using ladybugs but im afraid by the time i get them ordered it will be too late and my spouse would probably balk at turning bugs loose in the house
Try spraying the bugs off the plants in the shower. If you have one of those hand held showers, they work great. That will hold them for a while, but you may have to find a spray that will work in the house for aphids. I use Merit. Works great for me. Liquid Sevin works too, but leaves the leaves looking cloudy.
Brugie so glad to see you on.. i knew you would know to.. blessings.. all..
twyla
thanks they are all washed off and I'm on my way to buy the spray those little bugs went crazy fast i noticed a few little specs about a week ago now they are thoroughly infested must be millions of them
You can try Bayer systemic Rose spray but spray -then git off of house for a couple of hours . You can't be to safe . I have heard/read pepper spray , insecticide soap and tobacco tea will kill them . If what ever you use works- do it for at least a week and 3 weeks would be better .
I have been fighting the same thing, finaly got rid of them
Aphids can take over in no time. I give mine a good hard shower (and then run the water for a long time to be sure they're all down the drain). I use Bayer Tree and Shrub on EVERYTHING that I brought in this fall.
sorry to hear about your brugs' aphids infestation. no advise here, but just rooting for your brugs!
best of luck! please keep us posted.
I am with Linda....life is too short! I use the Bayer Tree and Shrub drench from the GitGo when I see those critters. With the drench they go away and stay away.
Try sprinkling some Sevin around the base of your brug at the soil ... you may have ants living in the pot and they are 'farming' the aphids. The powdered Sevin will take care of the Queen.
Good luck.
Just kill those devils!! They are pregnant when they hatch!!!Gotta get them fast!! I battled them last year, so I know your frustrations!! I find the less leaves we leave on them the less aphids. GOOD LUCK!!!
Bonnie
I forgot who told me but she striped all the leaves off of the plant even the buds so there was no place for the bug to hide.
When you use the Bayer Tree and Shrub drench, do you water well before using it?? I used it in the summer and it damaged seedlings, I thought because they might have been too dry. Or, can it even be used on seedlings and new rootings?? TIA!!
Tobacco tea might be good on some plants, but please do not use it on brugs. It can cause tobacco mosaic virus.
Sherry...soil should be dry when you use the drench. Never tried it on seedlings nor new cuttings...so don't know...but if you lost yours, there's your answer. The ideal way to drench is to put the pot in a tray. The tray will collect the run off and the plant eventually will absorbs the run off thru the bottom holes in the pot. I have used it on established cuttings in pots and on brugs in the ground....with a lot of success.
I have been using the Bayer spray on a mandevilla and am finally winning the war - have been spraying about every 48 hours for the last 10 days. So far no sign on brugs. I have a crocus (a birthday present from DDIL in October) that is so totally infested with aphids that I am planning to pull it up, bag the roots and immerse in dawn dishsoap mix as a last ditch effort. Just don't have the time to sit with q-tips and alcohol. Will let you know how the immersion technique works.
So, you use the drench on mature brugs, right Carol?? My seedlings, and only some of them, had problems with the drench. They recovered, and bloomed but it was a long, ugly haul, whew!!
Sherry....EdenBio does have a 1 800 # and they are really helpful...
(5/16/2001 “World’s Best Bugs”, tv channel 33) “One APHID, freely breeding and free from predation, having ample food, can in one year cover the earth with aphids 93 miles deep.” They clone themselves...virgin births! I want to know who it is that keeps bringing them food.
I still go with the Bayer Systemic. Jeanette
Really Oladyhoo? Is that true? So scary!! I get black, green and yellow ones. No pink though. LOL.
I usually use Palmolive dish soap in water and I spray it on them till the plant is soaking wet. I have always had great luck with it. I have never had aphids on my brugs but my mandevilla and my hibiscus get them.
Like Jeanette, I love that Bayer systemic soil drench. So easy to apply and no spray. I hate spray, I always get myself no matter how careful I am. If only it killed mites too, I would be so thrilled!
Hey kell... I just wiped out some orange ones. Want me to send you some? ;)
Barb
I've quit using any spray, unless there is absolutely nothing else in the world that will work. I use the Bayer products too and I use a 'bomb' in the GH, and I run when I start it and don't return until the next day...
I want PINK ones, Barb. LOL. To match my flowers. ! wonder if some are harder to get rid of then others. I never have had a hard time getting rid of them but I know others have. There are so many different kinds of them!
Patrica said she uses bug bombs in her GH too, Sherry and never has bugs if I recall correctly!
Gotcha, Kell.. these would prolly have clashed horribly with them anyway. As much as I would love to see some hot pink ones, if you ever find them, KEEP THEM!!!! (But take a few pics to show us!)
Oh yeah, be careful if you do find them cause they're apt to jump into that gawjus pink hair of yours and take up residence!
;)
