WE should have stayed in Puerta Vallarta.....

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

........and it's a good thing we changed dates to go, our original departure date was Dec. 7th. We would have had one unhappy child doing chores, let me tell you. On Wed morning, the barn cleaner chain ran off the sprocket and the manure pump had a spaz attack. After milking we had to get the chain and try and get the dead heifer unwound from the free stall where she decided to hang herself. Don't ask me how in blazes she got herself in the ungodly position she was in, but it was a doozy. Thursday morning had a fresh cow. Friday morning she decided to come down with milk fever. 2 trips by the vet to treat her. Sat. morning we drug her out of the barn driveway and out to where there are a couple calves tied. This morning he drug her out the rest of the way and shot her. He took the set of twins that were born last night OUTSIDE (stupid cow wasn't due for 2 more weeks, and had NO bag at all, or we would have put her in.....) that kinda looked like they might have been DOA"s in the first place beside her. Oh, dead cow's calf was a heifer, and she is doing fine. Another fresh cow Sat. night, another heifer, also doing fine. Vet had to come for that cow this morning; cow not really sick, but not up to steam either. Slight temp and diarrhea, so treated her for that. Of course the one that had the twins has a humongous wad of cleaning that you just know won't come on it's own, so that will be another vet call on Thursday, I suppose, unless she gets sick as a dog before that time. Have several cows we want to sell; tested milk last night and this morning, looks like they will be around for awhile yet, I know he won't sell a cow giving 60 pounds. that one has a bad foot, we're keeping her in the barn as she doesn't get around too good outside. Other than that, things are just peachy here on the ranch. Cold, snow, and all those other good things. Guess I'll go sit on the register with the cats. :>)

I wonder what disaster will befall me when I go out tonight for chores. LOL
