Oh no, limp peduncle!!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

The peduncle (or however you spell it!) on the new h. imperialis I got seems limp. Is this a sign of stress, need for water, overwatering, too much light, not enough light, too warm, too cold, it doesn't like me and wants to go home, or what??? Please help!

Remember Groucho Marx? He once said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".... lol

Limp leaves, peduncles etc. sometimes just happen. As long as the rest of the plant is OK, and the other plants in the area are happy...could be just a result of the trip in a dark box, adjustments to new environment and all that. The forming buds are the most tender part of the plant....and then the peduncle. You may lose the buds...but you have the peduncle which will flower again.... Just keep her warm...spritz her from time to time if it is dry....

Thinking of you and sending good vibes....

Uh, oh....so if you loose pendacules, they don't come back. I know that some hoyas drop theirs, but if they do fall of, your out of luck? Will they hoya produce ones from different places? Or are you supposed to take cuttings and start out from scratch? Inquiring minds need to know.

The rest of the plant looks incredibly healthy to me - even a few new leaves popping up! And the leaves ARE beautiful! All the plants around it seem content. Well, I guess I'll keep an eye on it, and see what happens! Carol - teehee....

Some plants have permanent peduncles, some keep them for a couple of bloomings and some drop theirs after blooming.... If a peduncle drops off - the plant does have the wherewithall to make a new one...and many new ones. It isn't critical at all....not to worry. Heather, you have been in the frozen north too darn long!!!! Get South, Girl!!!

Here is the thread that lists all the hoyas that drop their peduncles: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/549190/

Crazy thing is, I am in the south right now, visiting my mom in Florida. I'm just an airhead!!

Hey Heather, thought you were in Florida. Did you get Mom signed up?

The blooms are starting to fall off :(... But you know, the leaves on this h. imperialis are so nice, and the plant itself is so gorgeous, it really is ok! Besides, the peduncle looks better - I probably won't lose that, so it'll bloom again! BTW, I have noticed some gnats around my hoyas - I'm sure it's been posted before, but, if anyone has a minute, how can I treat these, and are they dangerous or just a nuisance? Thanks - Karen

Karen:
GNATS?!? Ah girl - - TAKE A BAAAAATH! =0)

Are you calling me "gnatsty??" See how my sis treats me, ya'all??

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I have not had that problem....but then I use DIAL.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Ok, Karen it's dial for you (lol) and for the hoyas it's some of that sticky-tape for white fly's, etc. that you can get from just about any plant store. That ought'a get rid of those nasty buggars!

DIAL - now, is that a once a week application or only in the spring?? (Thanks, Ann - I'll get some sticky strips!) Karen
