Suckers and chimeras

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

OK I am a moron and still new at propagating my plants.
I now have some of my first chimeras...Could people please show me examples of suckers!
I think I got one off of my monique but I am always paranoid to pluck just new leaves *laugh*
So I want to make sure I know what I am looking at :)

I will also have to try Rob's suggestion
I could make a stump with mine! She is definitely large enough.
If there is enough interest in her plantlets that is

You could sell it on eBay, they seem to command a pretty good price!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I could Begonia but I prefer to share with the people who love them :)
I actually got Monique of of ebay but I didn't pay too much for her :)
If and when I get this done :) it will be to share with everyone :)

AV lovers have the BIGGEST hearts! You are another gem Lorry!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Awh, you are sweet!
But AVs are just a hobby for me and I want it to stay that way :)
My full time job is stressful enough! This is just what I do for fun and if I made a business out of it, I would lose the fun!
So I would rather share with other hobbyist like myself..get to know people and perhaps share some exciting plants!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm with you on that, Lorry! DH has been looking at all the leaves I'm putting down & asking if I'm planning to eBay any next year.... mostly I think that's because he's afraid I'll trade all of them for still more AVs until there is no elbow room around here! LOL I told him if I had "too many" I would give them away or try to swap them for outside plants. :-)

I won't put 'Monique' on my wish list until I have a cool chimera to trade in return.... that will give me incentive to search one out this spring!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I do a little of both, sell on ebay to support my habit so I can get more begonias so I can put down more cuttings so I have more trade material! kind of a cycle!

I see this cycle starting with AV's too...like i said in another thread, need a winning lotto ticket.(grin)

When I beheaded some expensive Chimera plants I love them. But when I just took one ot two leaves off of the crown they started to sucker and I still had my plant. :)) Allison

Oh good to know treasure. I will try that before the beheading LOL
I do have a sucker that was on it though..which was mad luck :)

And critter...you don't need a chimera to trade it for hun...just add it to your wish list..come on..I dare ya

Critter I'm sending you one of my rare vintage trailing Chimera in Spring too. Allison
PS did you forget ? lol

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL...did you want Monique on your wish list also Treasure? I think you would love her! It has remarkable flowers.

Yes if you have enough ... I also have Hawwian trail growing but it's still a small, small baby a friend from Canada sent me the cutest tiny unrooted sucker :)) I bought her the plant as a gift and she sent me her first sucker. I am going to have at least five Sunray Trail Chimera plants in Spring I think three are promised :))It's a rare standard trailer just about a Vintage I have never seen it for sale again any where. Lorry
If you are going to buy Chimeras and one being The Alps
My understanding from others you will get a larger better plant from Lyon's green house.
They have many Chimeras one being The Alps for $ 12.50 :))
The Alps -$12.50- PHOTO-GC - This superior cultivar boasts a treasure of creamy white, semidouble, pansy shaped blossoms, painted with bold stripes of pastel blue in the petal centers. In near continuous bloom, an abundance of blossoms will form in clusters above the easy, rosette forming, medium to dark green foliage. One of our most frequently ordered chimeras. Allison, that bloom is just *outstanding!!* WOW! And no, I didn't forget your generous offer.... but I am going to have to hunt around to try to find something to send you in return that is worthy of it! I'm sure we'll manage a spring road trip up to The Violet Gallery, and while I don't think they have chimeras, they do have a pretty good selection with some unusual varieties.... I would be happy to send an AV of your choice from there (perhaps minus a leaf or two, LOL) in return for a chimera baby!

Y'all are just too generous.... I really would be content to wait for the next round of chimera babies, when I've hopefully got a chimera of my own to propagate in return!

Thanks for the info Treasure :) Very sweet of ya! I will look into them!
I LOVE the flower you have there! Simply stunning!
Thanks for sharing!
I am most DEFINITELY buying the Alps before hubby changes his mind LOL.
