It looks like they touched up the picture :(

Really? I don't think so. That looks like a typical Kanehoe Sunburst to me, but I know that there are some photographers that like to remove the dirt specks and adjust the color of their photos to reflect what they see in person and to make the picture more true to life. This has been debated extensively as to whether or not it is an ethical practice. Some claim that it makes the picture more pleasing to the eye while others would prefer to see the flower in its natural state.

I don't want to get into that debate again, and I don't know whether it has been done with this picture or not, but it looks like a fine representative of the flower to me, and it is not being sold here and is only posted for educational purposes. Now, that being said, I've seen some horrible examples of retouching on eBay that is clearly unethical and done to make a cultivar seem more rare and therefore fetch a higher price, and that is unethical.

When I was building up the plumeria section of PlantFiles, I didn't have pictures of all of the cultivars myself even though I have an extensive collection so I asked others to contribute their pictures, and Katzi's Exotic Blossoms was kind enough to do so that our database could be complete or on its way to being complete. I am still looking for some pictures for blank entries and still posting my own pictures and am constantly making new entries as new cultivars are commercially distributed.

Here is a picture of Kaneohe Sunburst, taken by fellow collector Bret Morgan of Kimi's Plumerias that obviously hasn't been retouched. This was taken at C-Stars Wholesale Nursery in Southern California.

I had no idea it was a debate, sorry. The picture taken at C-Stars Wholesale Nursey looks more "real". Maybe because it's more sharp. Some pictures I take look doctored because my camera isn't great and doesn't capture all the colors.

No problem, CaptMicha:-) I agree that poor resolution can also make pics look that way. I noticed that too.

My so called Sunburst just flowered does not look that at all, or any other picture I can find of the Kaneohe Sunburst. Bummer.

Too bad. Sunburst is so pretty. What does your's look like?

I just saw your pic, and you are right that that flower is not K. 'Sunburst.' It is pretty though. I don't have K. 'Sunburst,' or I would send you a cutting. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with it when I saw it at C-Stars.

Ah, you just answered my question that I asked you on your other thread. C-Stars is in Gardena. I'll give you the address the next time you come to Southern California because you'll want to go visit there.
