Potting soil

SISTERS, OR(Zone 6a)

Hi from HI
I just got my dwarf plumeria plants from Carol..Florida Color....now what do you recommend for potting soil??? The only Plumeria I have is many years old and in the ground. I want to put these in pots.....at least till I redo my front yard and then they can go in the ground
Thanks for any help

Good drainage is important, especially if this pot is going to get rained on frequently so any well-draining potting soil. I find MiracleGro drains really well. I personally use SunGro Sunshine Mix No. 4, which I buy from a farm supply store. Some people mix 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 cactus mix, and 1/3 pumice or perlite so that the soil drains really well. Pumice is nice if you can get it because it helps with water drainage without gathering at the top of the pot like perlite does. The water should run right through the soil and out the drainage holes if you have good drainage. Also, the dwarf plumerias tend to grow slowly so make sure that you don't start out with a big pot for it because overpotting can cause drainage problems as well. Congrats on your purchase! I love Florida Colors.

Thanks Clare.....I'm headed to the store to get more potting soil. I may add bark chips, I read somewhere that Plumerias like that :)
