Brugmansia Forum

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Would it be inapropiate for me to ask why this forum is so closely monitored? I have read the rules at the top of the forum, but do not understand. Please help so I do not get kicked out of the best thing that has happened to me in almost 40 years.. John

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

John- I think it would be best to ask the owner of DG (Dave) any questions you may have about this. To be honest, I've never noticed the rules at the top of this page. It's a first for me.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Gosh John do not know . guess i better get to reading to.. BUt htink you will do fine.. Just enjoy.. Twyla hope 43.

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

I guess that being a newbie, that will not be privy to what the ABADS or BGI means. Maybe only Dave can explain. This note is at the top of the brug forum. And it makes me cautious of posting. JOHN

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Okay, I must be blind because I don't see the rules.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

John don't think can mention those 2 have brug . pictures maybe can i do not know i think not..Just ask Dave he is very kind nice... blessings..

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

John, I do not think it is a secret. Dave says what they are in his sticky thread,.
Per Dave: "Who are these groups? ABADS and BGI are brugmansia-oriented groups that are constantly at each other's throats. They literally hate each other. It's best to steer clear of both of them at this time."

Because some of us who belonged to one or to the other brugmansia related group would have huge fights with each other on this forum, Dave had the brilliant idea not to allow us to talk about them at all or even mention them. Also recruiting was going on from this forum for both groups and it would upset some of us. People were also advertising on here their or their friends brugs for sale on eBay or elsewhere. Dave decided it best to leave all that nastiness at the Brug Forum door so we could relax and have fun.

It is much better now. We all try to get along here now and leave any other business done in other brug groups out of here entirely. It is great.

No need to be afraid! Just post about brugs or garden related things and there is no problem.

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Gotcha, understand now, thanks very much John

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

I guess I didnt understand the "sticky" term thanks again

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

John, "Sticky" means that particular posting will remain there at the top. Nothing to do with "sticky" subjects or "sticky" situation........just means it's like a sticky post-it note that will remain at the top of a forum.

Oh, John, I meant to tell you one more thing in the dmail I sent you. Every Thursday morning and every Tuesday evening there is a chat room that's open to subscribers. I'm not sure of the hours, but you'll notice during these times that your upper right hand corner of the page (that indicates the forums you're watching) displays a "Chatroom Is Open" icon thingy. It's immediate chatting about different things.

Thank you so very much BDunn - er- or Barbara

I learned something new again! Thanks, Barbara.

John, may I ask a question related to Barbara's post about the chat room?
Barbara, I noticed that this morning and clicked on it. I saw several people chatting, but they were discussing recipes and/or cooking subjects. Do certain forums or whatever go there at certain times? How would someone find others wanting to discuss gardening or like issues? Should it be arranged ahead of time? Thanks.

Barb

Corte Madera, CA

barb, i saw that, too!

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

I don't think it is set up with "time slots" for specific forums. I've gone in there a couple of times and there seems to be more general discussion, but they seemed very friendly and invited me to jump right in with whatever topic I wanted to talk about. I have noticed a couple of names that were familiar to me from different forums.

I'm sure someone will give us the official answer.
Barbara

Just thought of something -- I guess we could arrange a time to "meet" in the chatroom and talk brugs. Why not??? So who are the Thursday morning people out there and who are the Tues. evening people?? Let's meet and do one on one conversations. What do you think?

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Welcome to the Brug forum & a terrible addiction!
Don't let those sticky notes scare ya. We are a pretty friendly bunch here. I haven't ever been to the chat here, hum, guess I should go check it out sometime. Bj

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks to all for making me feel welcome, Brinda, Kellyville is between Tulsa and Bristow Where is Yukon? John

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Hi John, Yukon is a suburb of OKC....just on the west side. Look me up for some brub cuttings in the springtime. I have many in bubbles now......Hopefully they will make it through the winter and be ready for you to take some come springtime.

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

That sounds great, Brinda. I go to OKC to the Veterans Hospital a few times a year, and boy do I get lost. John

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh John, I'm sorry to hear that you get lost going there! LOL I'm the same way with unfamiliar surroundings. My best friend works there. It is only about 20-30 minutes from where I live. She loves gardening almost as much as I do. She is a Dr in the Speech Pathology Lab. I know she'd be more than happy to bring plants to you when you're there, or you could take a short trip to Yukon. Woooohoooo...now I'm excited to have someone close to me that loves brugs too! LOL

Edited 'cuz I can't type or spell today.

The chatroom is pretty much anything goes. If you choose to meet in the chatroom to discuss Brugs, you would be doing it inbetween all the other "chat" going on and it might be difficult to follow. I do remember some time ago belonging to a "Parrot" site that had allotted time slots for certain species.
i.e. 9a-10a - budgies
10a-11a - cockatoos
12-1p - macaws
1-2pm - breeding topics
3-4pm - showing topics

Not sure if it could work here but perhaps someone could discuss it with Dave and perhaps open the chatroom at certain times more frequently during the week.

I have sent mail to the admins to ask for more chat time. The times don't work well for me, but I guess that's my problem. I enjoy the chat very much - usually not very gardening related (at least not any specifics) because it all goes so fast. We have a good time though. Maybe if enough people ask we could get more times.... or forum specific times. I think the room is monitored the whole time, so maybe they don't have anough staff to do the monitoring?? I don't know, but it's lots of fun.

Welcome, John. You will love it here. I hope you have lots of space in the garden!

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Thank you Angela, Yes I already feel at home, I just cant wait until I start some brugs. They are one of the most interesting plants I have seen. And yes I have 20 acres of sandy loam, and nothing but time on my hands. I also have a small GH 8x12x8. thanks again for the welcome. John

Yippee! We haven't gotten the freeze yet. Here's a pic of my brug blooming. I think this is Charles Grimaldi. In the warmer weather the blooms are longer and tend to be more orangey. But I'm a proud mama. This was takent his a.m. on December 12th!

Barbara, that is one awesome plant.

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

Glad you like it, John. This is the mama you'll be getting your cutttings from. I might try and stretch another day or so and then I'll let you know when they'll be coming. I really need to take the cuttings by tomorrow, I guess, to allow time for the cuttings to get to you timely during the week. We don't want them sitting freezing somewhere over the weekend. I'll let you know.

Are you hindering peace? Do you teach newbies how to hate? Do you love to hear every juicy piece of ugly gossip? Love to spread it? Belong to a private email group? As long as this is going on there will be no peace at DG. At this point in time the problems are not coming from the 2 groups. It is coming from individuals that secretly love to stir things up. Let it go and this would be a fun place for everyone.
