Aly's Rosie Baby

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Here are the buds on the little gal that Allison sent me. This is Aly's Rosie Baby,-(A. Droege) Dainty pink double blossoms over dark green pointed foliage. Miniature trailer

There are two sets of teeny tiny buds. Here are the photos. I'll post the progress as she goes and gets closer to blooming.
Thanks Allison!!!

sorry the shots are a little blurry on the flower buds, it was hard to get my camera to focus on what I wanted. Sometimes my camera has a mind of her own!

WOW Begonia :)) It's her first flowers :)) I know she will be a heavy bloomer. Your new babies are giving you all kinds of first flowers :))
I'm so happy and excited for you ! They sure love their new mom.

And their new mom sure loves them. I'm wallowing in my current success. I've never been able to keep an AV alive let alone have one thrive. Gulp, hard to admit because my degree is in the horticulture field. I spend over 12 years working in a nursery and almost 8 years in college. My adult life has been 'plants..plants..plants'.

I think it comes down to providing the right environment, which I never did before -too busy, and paying attention to their needs, again, which I never really did. It's great to have found this forum (and Daves' for that matter) so that I can learn how to succeed!

Oh you are an excellent new Mom :)) You are going to have so many flowers to cheer you threw the winter. ( does it get cold there ?)
Many reading I have say African violets should bloom year round with maybe a few days to week rest that's it. As a plant gets older it will bloom even more and sometimes the flowers get larger ! This is so exciting the babies are blooming for the first tim for their new Mom. I don't even think they had buds when they left my home ? Maybe a couple were blooming but not the others. They are very happy :)) Keep up the great work ! Allison

How very exciting!!!

What will tomorrow bring?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh WOW Beautiful ! Her first blossoms :)) Gosh she looks so pretty shiney and clean. You know what I do. I gently take all my bloom staks one at a time when they are long enough up between the leaves until their all on the top of the plant making a pretty boquet :))
I learned this at club meetings and shows. Most plants you can do this to. Just gently move them so they are not under the leaves but up inbetween. . Don't break the stem. If you do put it in a little vase. Sometimes for fun I cut a whole bunch off and put them in cute little mini vases. Allison

Allegro's Harvest Moonglow, still bloomin' her head off. Ali, is this the one that needed repotting?

Thumbnail by begoniacrazii

I am having a hard time keeping African Violets moist enough without being too moist. What is the best way to water violets? I have some capillary mats and am using artificial lights. I put the pots directly on the mats and wet the mats, but that made the violets too wet. If I don't use mats, then the violets get bone dry. Suggestions, please? thank you!

Begonia WOW the plants look great ! Your a super duper Mom :))

Persevere1 Are your plants wicked ? What are you using for wick material ? are your plants in a light airy soil-less mixture ? Plants bought in a nursery come from a control; enviroment . The soil is heavy and they need new soil-less mix new pots...

LOL..well if you have any extras...keep me in mind!
I LOVE that type of leaf pattern and always have.
So any others you have LIKE that.
The ones that has the viens of a light green inside in a starburst pattern.
If you follow what I am saying.
I am not sure how else to describe it!
I have a couple like that though and just LOVE the look!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm sure I do. Aly's Rosy Baby is a nice trailer too ")) I'm sure I will have one for you Lorry.

Thanks so much Allison :)
On my babies....I dont' have any yet LOL
But the leaves have not died..so I am assuming that to be a good sign :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Just keep them warm and give them lots of light they'll be popping up
all over the place soon :)) Allison

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

While it's not Aly's Rosie Baby, it is one of Ali's babies. Proud mom anouncing the good news... 'We have ROOTS!'

From the leaves Allison send, EverRejoice, Steele Blue has roots! Woo hoo! Strugglin as they seem to be, I definitely see roots!
Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It's name is realy Aly's Rosy Baby registered name . Is that what you meant ? I have Aly's Blizzard Bunny . There is about 15 Aly's in FC. I think they are by Alice Droege who owned ~ African Violets by Fredericks ~ for years .. she is the one who put up the web sight that now is owned by D&P Greenhouse , Which has not owned it long now going ut of business. . I wonder if the D & P is still Alice or her family ?
It's sad to see them go out of business. Some of you I think bought from them on Ebay. You can also buy from their sight out of going prices.

So happy your leaves are rooting Begoina ! Pretty fast you just got them :)) Good Job ! Allison

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

ABout how long does it take to see plantlet?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Usually, the leaves root in two to four weeks. The first plantlets appear in about 8-16 weeks from the time the leaf is put down There are always times when time is shorter or longer.
You'll want to keep them warm and give them a lot of indirect light.
There are so many web sights about growing African violets by leaf.
Here is one.

I came back from several days in NC to find fat buds on several of my plants (ones that I haven't seen bloom before) -- what fun!
