How can I get a start of this fantastic bloomer?
Brugs
welcome to the brug forum! wow, we got another one just in time for a long winter. lol.
well, you just missed brug cuttings offer extravaganza (when enthusiastic admirer of brugs cut back their collection before frost), but i bet there are "extras" out there.
annapet
Moonglow, will these "brugs" grow in my climate? 6b?
brugs grow in a wide range of zones, but the care of course will vary. i hope someone in the know stops by and help us out here for i am a newbie. generally, you take your brugs inside before frost.
i looked who is in 6b, and datdog (kristi) of course is one of the best brug growers out here.
there is plenty of brug literature available, though i can't mention some sites here, i will d-mail you.
thanks Moonglow
carrjohn, I grow them in the garden all summer then dig them up and bring them in the house, if they are too large to dig I cut them up for starts for myself and other's who need them, I have no starts now but I do have seeds if you would like to start some over the winter, just send me stamps (47cents) for postage with your name and address and what I am sending you. with a lot of mail you forget who gets what. lol
Doris
Iam in Tulsa yes sure will with care..
Hi and sending a Hearty WELCOME,
Yes they even grow in Maine :-)) just kidding.I am in Zone 4b/Zone 5a reading different charts and so I really don't know exactly which zone I am in ?
But I do understand that Monika Gottschalk,a german excellant Hybridizer who is also a member here and has her own website is in zone 5a and so are many others here in the group which have alot of success.
So don't be afraid to grow them.I am also new to this as of a few months ago and have had GREAT succes with one particular cutting I rooted.I was given a cutting by Dan (diamond1213 ) ,received it on the 24th Oct.put it in a mason jelly jar, changing water every day .It had 2 buds, one fell off and the other opened just TODAY ( see my thread ) plus I will post pictures later, just got thru.
In addition to alot of cuttings I have startet, some potted up some still in water I have ventued out in growing some of Shirley's (Brugie ) seeds, again with success. Some almost 100 % germination, some slower, still sprouting.
So dive right in and you will see why this can be so VERY addictive :-))
Welcome again,
Brigitte

Carrjohn,
Ah oh! You're in trouble now. You must have an addictive personality! LOL. Just start reading all these threads and you'll get on to it in no time. By the way, I'll have some cuttings in a few more days. I'm in a warmer zone than alot of the folks here on the forum so I can get them longer. I've been keeping the secret that I have one more flush on one (I think it's a Charles Grimaldi, but what do I know?) if the weather will hold just a couple of more days. I hope, I hope! I've got about 25 blooms that just want a tiny bit more warm weather to be able to pop. Got down to 40 last night so I'm crossing my fingers. It's very pretty and is a peachy orange. If he makes it, I'll post a picture so that I can do some zone bragging.
Anyway, after it blooms I'll be glad to send cuttings. I also have a Dr. Zuess that I haven't cut back yet. That's a yellow one that turns orangey. Don't hold me to these names as I got these when I was just starting and I didn't pay attention to names then.
So if you'd like the cuttings just dmail me with your name and address and I'll get them to you if you'd rather try cuttings than seeds --- or try both!
Welcome to the garden!
Barbara
barbara, hoping yours will hang on a little longer. post photos please! weather here has dipped 37F (wee hours only) and my brugs are ok (candida double white is in bloom). but i am a newbie, lol. i did ask at the local nursery and the guy said brugs love this cool weather.
brigitte's GL and mine came from the same parent plant in southern california (donna SoCal). it's getting mileage!
no one can be saved from the lure of brugs.
=)
