Stalking you Al! I have never seen this thread before but it suddenly showed up on my "watch list" so here goes.

My Yvonne was so slow to bloom, no open flowers until October, and soon the show was over. Could have been the location in the yard, not enough sun. Yours is a lovely example of this flower and I'm wondering if you have earlier blooms or not.
Thanks!

Pooch,
My Yvonne bloomed in late July or so. I don't have as many dahlia as you - yet, so I start them all in pots on my porch 6-7 weeks before they go outside. It gives them a little jump. This was my narrowest and tallest dahlia I had last year.

I'm surpised to hear Yvonne being the 'tallest' as it was labelled a 3 ft variety for me and grew as such. Unless you have all shorter varieties. I should send you Mazama a purple waterlily- reached 8-9 feet for me. Definitely gives you a good stretch tending it.

I'll try Yvonne in a different location next year, and perhaps pot some tubers up for an earlier start as well. It's a lovely bloom, I'd just like more of them per plant.

pooch,
mine got to be 5'+. Most of my other dahlias were in the 3-4' range. The Yvonne is on the right side between the white ones in this photo. I would have no problem specializing in WL dahlias. We'll work out some trade for the WL varieties you can spare.
