Our newest member of the family is Blue. He is a Siberian Husky Mix. We adopted him from the shelter so his age is estimated to be about 1 year. He sure does act younger, but at his size, I would think he is fully grown. But boy, is he immature! KWIM?
I've never had a dog like this. But then, we have terriers also. LOL - talk about a mix! :)
Blue has been with us for a few months now. Rough going for Blue the first month, especially with Jake, our oldest Jack Russell terrier at 9. He was not amused. LOL. Doc (the other Jack Russell), age 3 was thrilled beyond the beyonds. THIS was his new buddy and playmate! So it went.
I have gone through my normal methods of training and teaching. Blue has been a good student, but not so willing. Emphasis on the word "willing". LOL!!
Housetraining was fairly easy and fast - I do think he was in a home before. Also he came equipped with the "hand shake".
OK - for the Husky owners out there - here are my questions!
1. Are they stubborn? I mean stubborn to the point that they know what to do but , uh.....decide they don't wanna do it?
2. Quiet. I mean - no barking hardly at all. With my two yappers I thought he might join the chorus! But he does not bark very much. Once a week?
3. And as an addendum to 2 - he likes to (for lack of a better word) "yip". Kind of a whiney......howl kind of thing. Again, not often but I would say "instead of a bark"
4. Loves to destroy ALL the toys - and if there are no toys left he will go for whatever is available. This is NOT GOOD. And because of this, I have to put him in his kennel even if I have to hop to the grocery store.
5. Jumps up on everyone. I'm really trying hard to break him of this one and it is slow going.
Blue is a love and a half. We are so happy we adopted him.He want's to lay in my lap which is impossible because he has very long legs. He is kind of tall. When I look at him sit, he almost has to accomodate his legs because his torso does not match. Hope that made sense.
I'm not sure if he is crossed with coon hound or doberman! He was transferred to the King County Animal Shelter from the Spokane Animal Shelter (One end of Washington State to the other).
But anyway, any Husky owners I can connect with I would really love to! Here is a bad close up of Blue - obviously he got his name from the one blue eye. He came with the name and knows it. We have unfortunately started calling him "boo boo" and it is a very bad habit!!
Any Siberian Husky Owners out there? :-D
