I bought this plant labeled as h. meliflua. I am TRYING to learn to identify my hoyas, so I have spent some time looking at pictures of hoyas. The picture of h. meliflua in Aloha Hoya's photo pendium does NOT look like my plant. So, I have three questions: 1. Do you guys think this is h. meliflua?
2. If not, what do you think it is? And 3. You will notice that it is quite yellow. What can I do to help my plant? Several of the plants I bought from this place (not an indivudual here and not Aloha Hoya, btw) were quite yellow. I don't believe I will buy hoyas from them again - I'm sticking with people I trust!! Thanks - Karen
H. meliflua?
Don't know what it is either, Sis.....but the one I bought (from the same place?!) that was labeled "Hoya Meliflua" DIED while I was trying to root it. =o( I just checked it this evening (right before getting on here) and all its leaves turned yellow and fell off.....so I threw it away. Was hoping I could get another cutting from YOU.
Phooey!.
Karen....it COULD be H. meliflua. I don't have it...but the leaves are supposed to be similar to H. diversifolia and the flowers larger. First....get it healthy. Second, get it to bloom and we will know!!!
How long have you been rooting it? Are there any roots at all? I would complain...and ask for a replacement if it has been under a week. Did you receive healthy green plants?
Carol
Hi Carol - Believe it or not, the plant actually looks healthier than when I received it. It was rooted. I've had it for about 3-4 weeks - I SHOULD have complained when I got it, but....Anything I can do to help it now? Like I said, I got h. globulosa and h. kerri in the same condition, only those were not rooted. (Hoya lesson #? learned: Buy from TRUSTED sources!)
Hey Betsy - If I can save it, you can certainly have a cutting!!! :)
Karen
Karen...I would remove the blackened leaves on the surface of the pot...if the plant is weak it may get fungus from those rotting leaves. I would water lightly but thoroughly, and give it half strength doses of SuperThrive and a Growing Fertilizer (higher first number than the rest...) but not really HIGH number....just sips of the fertilizer.
Anyone who ships plants like that should be SHOT!
Carol
I'm with you Carol. What a shame! It looks like it was overwatered in their nursery. Good luck. I got a H. meliflua fraterna, as one of my cuttings, I made it into two small plants, I would be happy to send you one in the spring if things don't work out with this one. Assuming I keep it happy over the winter. Let me know how things go with this one.
Heather
Thanks, Carol - I will try your suggestions!!!
Thanks, Heather - I may take you up on that depending on how this goes!!! Karen
