Blood Pressure medicine (Diovan)

DH has been on this medicine for about a year and half.
Saturday he started itching all over his body. I gave him some Benadryl, it gave little relief.
Sunday morning his tongue and face started to swell up. He went to the emergency room. They treated him and suggested he see his doctor. He saw him this morning and he advised he did not think he was allergic to Diovan.
He is better (played golf today).
He ate a piece of hummingbird cake saturday(had pecan nuts in it) and started itchin shortly thereafter. Could he be allergic to nuts.(never in the past)
