Which is this ear?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

They are very popular here. It was sold to me as "California" but I think it's a bit too big to be that one. The leaf stalks are about 18-24 inches long, not counting the leaves.

Another plant, same variety.

maybe boreno giant?

I have Borneo Giant. This one is not the same.

Louisville, KY

It's hard for anyone to say exactly off hand if this is a mature plant I would say Alocasia gageana. But if its not mature yet I would think Macrorrhiza possibly odora. Gigeana is a dwarf form that grows trunks and stays fairly small.

It seems to want to grow a trunk. I have had it for a year and a half.

Here is a link to some pics of Alocasia gageana. It grows only to about 3 ft before starting to grow trunks. The leaves rarely get over 1 to 2ft long usually a bit rounder that macs or other forms. The edge of the leaf should be rippled. Macrorrhizas look almost identical to this until it beings to mature. Both are farily common Macrorrhizas are more common but Gageana has been round a long time and is seen around a lot. If your stems get fairly long I say you may be looking at a juvinal mac. Only maturity can tell you exactly what it is you have. Or possible the source of your plant may have more mature specimens?

I have A. macrorrhizos, both juvenile and mature(with a trunk) and it's different. These are common here, don't ever get as big as A.mac and like shade better than sun. I'd say A. gageana
Here is a link, it says it used to be sold as "California" http://aroidiaresearch.org/gageana.htm
and it makes lots of pups, a lot more than the A. mac does. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Hi, a company that grows them, looks like Borneo Giant but colour not quite right, could be photo...the leaf veins look similar

California is a old name for gageana. Bornea Giant will get huge fast the leaves will also have a ripple effect all through the leaf. Macrorrhiza will not have this rippleing effect. If you look on that site of Agri starts they have Odora labled wrong it is Gageana.

Brian, that's what had me confused. I'd been to the Agristarts site and their "Odora" looked like my unknown.
Wallaby, I have Borneo Giant too, this is not it. Borneo Giant grows by leaps and bounds!
