How do your kitties handle changes?

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

We have a whole new hierarchy being established in our household. When we had five siamese, it was clear that Oskar, although only the second oldest, was the Head Cat. Hobbes, who went over the Rainbow bridge this past summer, was second in command, Max was the official clown, Mini was the whiner and adored Hobbes, and Souky was the "baby" and didn't pay any attention to the others at all. Slept alone, ate alone, cuddled only with the humans. Max was very playful and often went to the toy bin to get something to play with, and usually got one of the others involved in some kind of kitty game, hide and seek or chase-me .

Now Hobbes is gone, and Max has gone back to live with his original owner, my DS. Suddenly, little Miss Souky has had a change in personality. Maybe she thinks she was responsible for eliminating two competitors? She was always very reserved and quiet, and not at all playful. She's now charging around the house like a kitten, chasing poor Mini who isn't quite sure why this little mosquito is annoying her, going to eat out of the big cat's dishes, even caught her napping next to Oskar.

Since Mini was Hobbes' best bud, she is very lonely and I keep encouraging her to spend time with Souky, but so far it's not happening. She want to sit by/on/with me, as close as possible, And when she's not sitting with me, she's under my feet chatting and complaining.

How have your pets handled the change when one goes missing, or you move, or get a new family member?
