Question: What are your favorite violets? Do you prefer minis or
standards? Varigated foliage or a certain color or type of flower? Some people collect Optimara States, or Everfloris, Volkman's, or Ethel Champion...
Are you collecting a certain type or variety, or a little of everything?
Question: What are your favorite violets?
Great question V_T. Right now I have a little of everything. I'm beginning to think that must change because of room. I think I would like to refine my "collection". I think I would like to become a good caretaker of a few varieties and eventually try hybridizing. That would be great fun.
I am trying to learn how to help my trailers look their best. By pruning and coaxing the runners to go where I want them.
I would like to learn how to keep miniatures small and how to encourage semiminiatures that have gotten to big for their britches to return to the semi stage.
What are your favorites and how do you collect?
I like Mini's best. Their cute and fun to display, take less room ( have more ) and many of them have nice big double flowers.
I like flowers with Fantasy colors, Red, Yellow, Green , Blue, Patches..Oh my I do like all the colors but Fantasy, Yellows, ones with green's best.
I like to collect the Vintage, Volkman's, and Ethel Champion have real nice plants.
I like trailers any size , shape, of color.
Oh yes I collected some white flower Av's and Red ones.or red and white hoping they will be blooming for Christmas holiday :))

Betsy
Thats the best kind yes Betty :))
How about any that I havn't transformed to compost! So far so good in my new AV adventures! Have kept most alive!
But I am enamored with the ones with leaves like this one http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/551913/ that belongs to 2Zeus. I just love the way the leaves are splotched. So I suppose I'm partial to variegated lvs.
My favorite flower types are the ones with a green edge! (like most with the first name of Irish....)
I started a 'wish list' after visiting Violet Gallery today, so far I have about 40 and I'm not even through the letter "i' yet! Better go find me a winning lotto ticket!
Begonia:
that picture looks alot like "Wrangler's Pink Patches"....which is one that I have. But it's a very small plantlet at the moment. Remind me in the spring and if it's big enough, I'll put down some leaves for you and get you a baby, k??
Betsy
Begonia:
I love the variegated ones also :)) And the ones with green edges too !
Oh I wonder what VioletGallerys 2006 catalog will be like . lol
Allison
Begonia these are some grren ones I sent you. Sorry I did not do good with the variegated. I have loads of variegated babies coming up and will send you a few in the Spring :))
Rob's Antique Rose has green edges :)),
King's Treasure sometimes gets green edges
GEORGIA MELON beautiful pink, green edges
Everfloris 'Space Babies' EverRejoice green edges
My favorite are by far the minis!
Though variegated is a close second! Actually both is better.
I also prefer the plants that have multi colors in their flowers..
For example my painted desert has some of the prettiest flowers I have yet to see :)
Begonia :)
I LOVE those also :)
I actually have a couple that are splotchy like that!
I also LOVE Heaven's reflections which is variegated around the edges!
Oh Betsy put me on the list for patches when it is big enough to donate *wink*
Allison, are you kidding, you did GREAT! I'm more than thrilled with the babies you sent. Besides, as I learn more (like how to not kill them) it give me something to dream about for my growing collection!
There's something about the way that leaf type is splotched rather than just a random variegation, and some that I have are just lightly variegated at the edges only. That one is just so yummy!
