seeds are sprouting, and i'm ecstatic!
i started some in soil, and the rest in rockwool. if seedlings stay as happy, i'll have these crosses to raise =).
bf x (ep x l'a)
monika's bluff or buff x unnamed kell
sexy lady x suzanne
thanks, kell!
looks like 2006 will be a busier year!
Alright! Lookin' good.
thanks, gloria.
now, i'm thinking. perhaps hold off on the other seeds given to me until february. if i have a bigger sample, i'll start half now and half later, experimenting on the 2-month difference...just thinking out loud.
five (5) cg x dbl white candida are up, too. looks like kell's handwriting, but if not hers, i'll ask dick (strever). might be kristi's.
why are aurea seeds rare? or i just do not know where to look for them?
I really do not think the CG seeds are mine unless they are way old. I am not big on using CG.
The (EP X L'A) of the Bf X (EP X LA) denotes a as of yet unnamed seedling. I am sure I numbered it didn't I? It could be a CH or BEN with a number. I had some really dark ones from that cross Annapet. If you give me the number I can show you a pic. I am hoping this is a really good cross for dark pink!!
And that is Monika's buff, which is nickname to remind which it is. It is an unnamed seedling I really love of a very unusual color, that I go back and forth which it really is. It is the only pod ripe yet on it, I have a few more I am waiting on. It has doubles in parentage and that pod may have been crossed with my double pink. I am notorious for pollinating and not labeling. Then when I remember I am never quite sure which pollen I used so I leave the pod unlabelled. When I run out of tags out with me, I do things like tear the flower once for one pollen and twice for another. Of course I can only remember my code for 5 minutes. So I come out with my tags and am in a quandary. I then leave them untagged.
I have about 5 pods on Susanne that I know I pollinated with DP and MM, but I didn't label immediately so they will go out as X?. Shucks
Way to go, moonglow! Sounds like you got some neat ones there.
:) Donna
Annapet, which aureas do you like?
Many seeds available are hybrids. Aureas I find have leaves that are too big. They are usually very tall seedlings too! I prefer a cross, that retains some aurea characteristics like the low calyx. X Candida crosses are very nice. They usually have a lot of the aurea look.
Do you have RK? Look for RK crosses. I bet I have some seeds from Rothkirch.
lol, kell. this time i kept the envelopes taped on the pyrex. and hubby's wondering why i need more pyrex dishes!
bf x (ep x l'a) is dated, 102005, note: very dark midsummer, from 2 pds.
monika's buff x unnamed is dated 110305, note: could be double pink
sexy lady x susanne is dated, 102405 has the number 5 written upper right corner of the envelope, strikedthrough.
cg x dbl white candida might be old indeed. i got them from dick (strever).
kell, you also gave me RK x BF. one (1) out of four (4) came out. HUGE SEEDS though. the seedling is pretty fat, compared to the others.
hi, donna. thanks for stopping by. really excited about these babies. thanks to kell. my zone is helping me out, too. imagine, frost is a rare thing here.
annapet
LOL So Dick is sending out my seeds, huh. Toss them. They are old. And a few I grew were not great. I think Ada had a real ugly one from it too. (Cg x L'A ones)
I can tell I must be careful what I send to you. LOL
The 5 means 5 seeds in the packet but I must have added more seeds and crossed it out. Those dates are the dates the pods are harvested. Lets me know how old they are. I sent you very fresh so they would germinate faster.
Very dark midsummer tells me which brug it is. I will look for a pic when I get home. I had 2 pods of the same cross from the same brug so I mixed the 2 pods together. That is what 2 pods mean.
Tom and I about to go out to San Francisco for our anniversary! So I have to run. He is scolding me for being online.

kell, happy anniversary to you and tom.
i will toss those old seeds. please send new ones =)))). shameless, aren't i?
the scientist in me is back! must be the pumpkin pie or something. will take very good record of lab results.
How exciting Moonglow!
I am trying some seeds out for the first time, too.
Keep us posted on how yours progress.

Congrats on your anniversary, kell! So cool that you can just go for a jaunt to San Francisco.
:) Donna
I forgot to find you a pic, I will look later.
Thanks Donna and Annapet. We have been married 29 years. We went to San Francisco 3 nights in a row to celebrate. We like to eat well. LOL. San Francisco has such great restaurants. Last night we ate at Gary Danko's. It is a 5 star restaurant and it is always the best dining experience. We just love it so much. I was not too sad leaving though for we are going back at Christmas for it is my son's favorite restaurant also. It takes 2 months to get reservations usually but well worth it. We sat all evening holding hands and still eating with our other hand. I am left handed and Tom is right handed. It worked great. LOL.
wow, 29 years! that is so awesome.
now i'm thinking flambéed bananas with crépes and hazelnut ice cream. i'm allergic to hazelnut, but i love the show.
Congratulations Kell I was married 41yrs when I lost my husband.
Oh Doris, it must be so hard to go on alone. But you have made a new life for yourself. I can tell you are a strong woman. Look at how you have persevered with your brugmansia. And succeeded. I try to remind myself to really be aware of my great life with my husband. Some day it will be over and I will wish I had just a little more time.
doris, wow. ditto with what kell said. hubby and i will celebrate our 10th come february.
kell, can't trash the cg x dwc that sprouted (5). but the old seeds i haven't started, i've said bye-bye to already.
i was reading about brug literature, and trying to map out the dominant and recessive genes of brugs.
if aurea x versicolor = candida, and candida x aurea = aurea in appearance, does that mean candida inherited the recessive genes?
lol.
i even have the punnett square.
I am the wrong one to ask about genes. LOL. I have not seen enough to know. The only ones I see are the special ones that get their pictures taken. Not the uglies that get tossed. Though from the hybridizing I have done, I do know anything is possible!
well, i did something productive today:
eight (8) BF (EP x L'A) potted up in 5" tall rose bands.
i'll do the other crosses tomorrow. imagine my fence lined up with brug seedlings. will post photos tomorrow.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND Y'ALL!
